fly's
Alot of you guy's have removed the flys in the zx14.
I have not yet.
I have the computer and I extended a #2 philips and magnetized the end tip.
But is the mod for me?
Fuel milage?
I am a power nut.
I love what it has now.
I want more.
But I dont want a bike that stalls if I get a little greedy on the throttle.
I just finished reading the article on low end power.
What is the throttle response like?
Makuni's? roll on performance.
Does the bike stall easy with the flys out?
I am looking for user input.
Thanks for your time.

Much better throttle response. Unreal roll-on. More power below 6000 rpm. Fuel mileage will vary with whatever map you install. Perfect idle, no stalling. My mileage is down somewhat but it is worth it. You will not be sorry. LSL

Dude NO down side to fly removal.
Warm the bike first, a light tap to set the philips and go easy and firm. You dont get a straight shot at some of the screws due to the frame opening and thats where some strip the screwheads. It also helps to use vise grips on the linkage on the side on the throttle body to hold the shaft in place.
Theres a thread with good photos over at the other site and maybe here too.
If you have experience working on equipment its no big deal. And when you are done you'll wonder what the fuss is about.

I resisted for a while being concerned about reliving the abrupt throttle response of my 2000 ZX12R. However no such problem, just get a decent map and do it. Be prepared for the first time you roll into to hard at only 4K - i could not stop laughing it was that brutal comapred to before.
Go for it and enjoy.

Abrupt throttle response? What a crock...NFW. Learn how to handle the throttle. Anyone believing that the fly removal features an "abrupt" throttle response needs to trade bikes and get something more docile. The 14 is a bike designed for serious/experienced riders who know what they want; those who can handle power and performance. It's not some pussy-ass bike as some would believe. This bike was made for power delivery at it's best. I guess those same people believing anything but, have never ridden or owned the furious Busa...
I noticed on another thread that someone in Australia complained that the throttle response was too abrupt with the flies removed, so he filed off some part of the flies and reinstalled 'em to get less power...

You missed the point. If you have ridden an early ZX12R you would understand what I am talking about. It has nothing to do with throttle control. Not matter how gently you picked up the throttle the bike would lurch due to the motor "picking" up abruptly. Even with the flies out the 14 does not behave the same way - new injectors, better cpu mapping etc etc. Like I said my concern was that the secondaries were hiding this potential issue but this is not the case. Take em out and enjoy with a decent map.

Gotta love that zx12 throttle. the 2000's are crazy with the on-off. My 03 was much better. I think Kawi finally got it right with oval throttle pully(?) or whatever it is. My partners '04 was Honda-like smooth. THe 14 without the flies is totally different. Its instant on, but I would not describe it as abrupt.
FWIW, the fella that trimmed the fly plates...I think he's pretty damn smart. I'd try that if I wasn't skeered of dropping a screw down into the engine.
Not to jack your thread, but 191 rwhp R1? DAMN.
