LOWERING THE BIKE -

General question:

I'm planning on lowing the bike because I'm short...I may have to lower it about 3 inches. How will this effect the handling...I don't race and we don't really have twisties around here. I LOVE how it responds NOW and am aware that by lowering it I will lose some of that , I guess I'm just wondering how much I may loose.

Thanks guys!!

Jonathan

It might make it spin a bit more but other than that it;s awseom,. If you dont take a lot of hard turns then you will love it, but if you lower it (expecially on the last hole in link) its gonna rub in a hard lean! But i love it lowered it is so much easier to handle at dead stops, and it looks great!

if you lower the front more than i think its 1 1/2'' your nose will hit front fender... lower the back all you want but not sure about front that much

You can also get a Corbin seat = or have stock cut down. I thing if you lower it 3" things will drag (could cause and accident) - oil drain will evetually get ripped out (tire oil down and possible accident and potential engine damage) tire will rub on fendor unles you have the shocks modified. Sounds like you need a Harley - now that is a sled that you can lower.... KSP

It's not that bad! I rode mine for about 1 month on the lowest setting, and the front forks lowered 1.25inches, and it only rubbed in hard turns, and big drop offs such as curbs. Take in mind that I weigh 260lbs!! The reason i raised it back to the 2nd notch is because when i strap it and race it the back tire was rubbing the undertail and making a hole! I am hoping it wont affect the 60ft time that much!

If you know how to ride like Tonytooth, you'll have the lowered bike so low in the turns sparks will be quite common from the foot pegs.

Thats what I noticed while following him around the on-ramp to I-4 from the veterans, an awesome spark show.

when you lower, you might want to stiffen the suspension up. It's real easy for stuff to start rubbin' & bottoming....especially if you're a heavy dude. You need to keep an eye on your drainplug ,maybe even have it relocated. The only other advice I have is to know your route. Cruising around on unfamiliar roads can cost you a front fender, cracked lowers, & worst case, go down after bottoming out.

yea take it from me. bottom the pan, lost the drain plug and damn near locked the motor. This next go round im putting it in the second hole, buy stiff springs for the front and rear. Im 245 and racetech has stiffer springs for us heavier guys. Also im getting the strap for the rear shock from muzzy. Its suppose to keep the shock from hit rock bottom. Its only 30 bucks and they have one for the 2nd and 3rd hole. I have my plug relocated and have had my welder build me a piece of metal on the bottom of my pan. This is all just in case stuff. Burning my motor up was stupid and wouldnt have happen if the bike was at stock height. But hey, my bike is 1.25 in the front and on the 3rd hole in the rear. I like how i was able to launch it. That was the price i paid. Try not to make the same mistake.
