"Raced" a V-Rod, lol
I was riding with a buddy of mine last week, both on red 14's, and passed a group of guys on cruisers. Apparently one of them was on a V-Rod and thought he'd teach us something. I pulled up ahead a ways but my buddy stayed back far enouth to notice that the guy on the V-Rod was trying to prove something. After a few minutes :P the V-Rod rattled up to about 140 mph and the wind had this guy swerving all over the road, forcing my buddy to get out of the way. We had a good laugh at the next red light.
On the same note, I had a coworker tell me a couple of weeks before how the V-Rod would blow away my 14. Guess Harley Davidson should be thankful most of their customers can't read. Somebody get these guys a library card.

Only V-Rod that would manage to stay remotely close would be the track version, which isn't equipped for street use anyway. If memory serves me correct, it won't hit 8's -- and top speed is way lower than the 14 in any case.

If my memory serves me correctly (big if), there was an article on the "drag race" only V-rod in Motorcyclist were an experienced drag racer was only able to break into high 9s with the $35K bike. I'm sure with some tweaks and a pro on the seat it could be in the lower nines, but I think 8s would be out of reach.

I've tried so hard to be open-minded about the whole harley thing. This guy doesn't think they perform quite up to par either

What's with all the hating? You guys are comparing apple's to oranges. Two totally different bikes for different uses. Besides v-rods are in the cruiser class and the 14 is a rocket bike. The way I see it...if you ride any kind of motorcycle, your cool with me! That guy that was all over the road probably had an older A-model v-rod with the solid wheels, not friendly at highway speeds, you will get blown all over the place. I like v-rods, doesn't do 200 like the 14, but I don't need it too. If you want to check out some bad a$$ v-rods go to the 1130cc.com forum or youtube. I know two off hand(badrod II, project v) that run in the 8.80 range with a shootout tire. If you want you can throw a plate and some blinkers on them and call them street legal, but that's not what there for. Now if you want to say that guy spent 15k to make his bike run 8.80's and that guy spent 30k to run 8.80's...who cares. All I know is that I love my 14 just as much as I love the v-rod or any bike that brings me happiness. Yeah some guy on a v-rod was trying to have some fun...so what, glad nobody was hurt. We don't need to be divided between the harley crowd and the japanese bike crowd. Let's just go racing and kick some a$$!

Also the v-rod that I am on runs 9.70 and it doesn't cost $35k more like $15k. You have a bike that has 120hp and a bike that has 180hp. Might as well start comparing my pit bike with a top fuel harley.

Heeellllloooo, I am pretty sure it was the Vrod that started this comparison by trying to start something with the 14, not us 14 owners trying to make fun of the Vrod or compare to it...

racing your vrod and expecting to win with it is like racing honda cars with fart cans or the special olympics, no matter who wins all the participants are still retarded

I am sure that everyone here can smoke a stock 1250cc V-Rod from stoplight to stoplight, huh? LOL I'd bet a fair share of you would get waxed in the 1/8th, as well.
Give it the proper venue, and rider, and maybe you won't be laughing so hard...

Ya, I wasn't making fun of the V-Rod, just the thought it was funny that the guy tried to race us on 14's. Maybe he was just having fun, and that's cool, but the the other guy I worked with actually thought it was faster. He probably had read something about the track bike and didn't pay attention to the details. It just bugs me that his arrogance seems to be more common among Harley riders. I know most of them aren't like that, but when someone doesn't wave back on the road, it's usually a Harley rider.
Sideways, $15k sounds cheap, you buy that bike used?

I read an article recently comparing all the cruiser musclebikes, I think the V-Max was the fastest in the 1/4 mile, about 2 sec faster than the V-Rod.

You sound like a very experienced drag racer.....I'm sure that no well-ridden V-Rod could touch you and your 14 at the 1/8th mile 'strip.

Phytrax...the bike started off stock 1130cc v-rod. It is an 03 annivarsary model. Money was put in it to make it the way it is now. Don't know how much? Most the work myself. Just like most bikes, cars, boats, etc., they are not for the investment value. However if it was to be sold, I would think of you being able to get something like this(9.70 1320cc v-rod) for around $15k-$17k, just a guess. To each there own...you know. A stock 1130cc v-rod could probably get the 14 off the line(because you can launch the $hit out of them), however it would be close at the 1/8, the 14 would be gone. Of course a good rider too! On a positive note I did 150 on the way back from Jackson today. That damn thing after around 140 takes off like a rocket, I'm guessing 180-185hp, pump gas w/filter. Has the brocks 200mph map in it....140 hold on!!! I remember a month or two back in cycle world they compared three cruisers, the v-rod being a second faster then the rest. Don't remember anything with the v-max, however those are pretty bad a$$ muscle bikes, have been since 85 or whenever they came out. There are many different level of rider skills on many different kinds of bikes. Heck I know guys who will out corner a lot of guys on a harley cruiser.
