Harleys are definately m y favorite - and I like the VRod, although the traditional VTwins are better for playing on the street. VRod are good bracket bike - about as good as you can get - extremely consistent and very reliable. Contrary to popular belief - my experieince is that the HDs are more reliable and better built than the jap bikes. The VRod has an engine designed in partnership with Porshe - and they had a major influence. I like the engine allot. The rice rockets are extraordinary performance engineering - but from my perspective the less fun on the road and less of a bike - but again extraordinary on the track . But if racing was outlawed - the Kaw would be the first to go - and the Harleys would remain in the stable for street riding - where I live there is a speed limit on the highways and back roads. Now why a VRod or a 14 was going 140MPH on a public road - with ed lights in the area to make it even worse - is beyond my understanding - as it seems like a reckless, dagerous and probably criminaly neglagent thing to do.......but that is why I go to the track. Now for the record - a VRod for those interested is very stable at high speeds - as is the 14. A VRod is good for just about 150 with the right gearing - a 14 can knock on 200. In a street race - light to light - experienced rider on a VRod will be a problem - as you can launch them on wet grass - so slippery pavement advantage VRod. I am only commenting based upon actual street racing in Pittsburgh at an event called the Pittsburgh Thunder - where they close the roads between the stadiums and run a 330 exhibition race..... and all I can say is that it is entertaining racing the VRod against the street children on their rice rockets - or even race prepped - experieinced jockey driven - the only venue where the VRod has the heads-up advantage......and if you doubt that please join us at the next event and we can do a few runs..... How's the Vrod hold up on the backroads? lol Sounds to me that it isn't as good as you think it is. That 14 will make that Vrod leak oil trying to keep up with it in some turns. I have now officially concluded the VROD is not an AWESOME ride. :P

Well - that is because you don't have any sense.... but that's ok not everyone does...... It seems ok to me on back roads going the speed limit - the only thing I turn on these things is the throttle - and that assumes a track with some room to move..... but if you are going to keep this bad harley attitude up I am not going to send you a complementary HOG membership and you will not get invited to any of the events....... and you will be lookin' in from the outside.........

..my guess is that the cruiser folks think cruising at anything over 100mph on a cruiser is overkill on public roads and think sportbike riders on 150+mph sportbikes are idiots for doing so....

Those are the unfortunate souls you hear about getting run off the road meeting some of the road rage morons I have. Not everyone who decides to get pissed at bikes for no reason are rednecks in a slow pickup truck or rusted out heap. I've met some dolts in vette's and vipers that didn't like being embarressed so easily by a bike. When meeting fools like that OVERKILL is the best weapon you can hope to have.

I've had a few H-D disciples give me the classic "Well just toss a washer or penny over the shoulder and that's that." I kindly inform them they should never attempt that urban myth since ball bearings and marbles can do alot more damage but all that driver has to do, hurt or not, is floor it and your fendmeat if you can't out accelerate them.

I don't go the speed limit in my car, let alone a bike through the turns. :P But I'm not flaming you, so don't get your panties wadded up. I'm just stating my opinion and it's as solid as OAK. Oh and I would never go to a HOG event. I don't fit in with that dirty crowd and 90% of them are idiots/tools.

Not that i ever do it, one way to send a idiot cager riding too close (and aggressive) to your rear a message is a good handful of ball bearings over the shoulder. Big message sent if it hits the windshield. Few freinds of mine would use the heavy marble sized ones and that would leave alot of lasting memory on the car that followed too close (hood, headlights, paint are usually taken care of besides windsheild damage). Marbles can do about the same and since they break..there's really no evidence. Damage aside, the noise made usually freaks the driver out.

As for me, I just floor it and leave the fools behind. Most i'll do is a one finger salute if i even feel they're worth that much effort. Otherwise, whatever the road rage cagers prob with me is they'll have to deal with as I leave them behind with all that anger and bile building up inside them. And if they're dumb enough to try to chase, it's their accident or talk with a officer they'll have to deal with. I'm making like ghost rider and getting out of sight.

Yeah, I'm for and practice the 2nd theory. Marbles over the shoulder sounds too hardcore and they've already seen your license plate. Maybe even taken a picture with their camera phone.

Well, I can take this Harley and whip many sportbikes. The list of mods is endless, But, will crush most sportbikes on a roll on. It was a project back when we were running Sportsters on the street.

Put those same goodies on the 14 Big_T_11! You'll get fucking smoked by probably all sportbikes. So now that I cleared that up; we're talking STOCK to STOCK! What the bikes TRULY are when they're produced. Anybody can put aftermarket shit on anything with a motor. Stock son! Pure STOCK! Next Harley lover should reconsider riding a sportbike since they love heavy junk so much. :P There's alot of knuckleheads here in this forum that love Harley's! WTF is with this site...good GAWD! I wouldn't go in a Harley forum talking up sportbikes. Quit bashing sportbikes to members who actually adore them by talking up those fart machines name Harley's; ASSHOLES!

...bash HDs all you like...the bottom line is that they are the ENVY of the motorcycle world...almost EVERYONE can relate to an HD...hell even the Asian and European bike makers had to make their version of it....and HD could catch and even surpass the Asian/Euro sportbike at their game if they chose to (look at their colaboration with Porsche Engineering and the VRod...not that far to take the next step), but my guess is that their bread and butter is the cruiser/touring scene...why mess with success?...and if you owned HD stock, you would care less what other bikers with different bends in their torso think...you just can't intelligently deny the pre and post-AMF HDs.... ...oh yeah, before I forget....ZX-14s kick ass!!!

I hear it stated like that all the time. I don't have a problem with the Harley lovers being sheep, we're all sheep of one sort of another, unless you've invented some truely new lifestyle.

Anyway, I just think a lot of Harley riders are being exploited by good marketing. The bikes are very expensive and generally considered to be less reliable than other brands. It's a status symbol, I get that, but why else would you really want one?

Thank you! It's not like you buy it for performance! Who here doesn't buy a car that performs well? Get my drift...???

i have nothing against cruisers, but i would not pay twice as much for a harley because they don't offer anything more than little extra chrome. if i want a cruiser i buy me a suzuki m109 or yamaha warrior or honda vtx 1800 or kawasaki vulcan etc..... less maintenance, more reliable and almost half the price.

They ARE big, heavy slow pieces of shit (have one) but they do serve their intended purpose eh? Personally, I prefer my sportbikes, but the bigass heavy Road King does a nice job for the odd Sunday boulevard cruise -- then leaks oil on my floor (from non use) for the rest of the week...

I'd rather save and buy a better ride too man. Roadstar or Vulcan would be my choice. If I had the cash, I'd buy one for the side. Ofcourse I wouldn't even consider a Harley.
