stuck in 5th !!! wtf ??
ok .. so I got my 43t today .. installed .. and couldn't quite get the front off so I reassembled and had to be ok with only getting the new rear sprocket on.
life was good .. and I went for a boot .. a few tiny lifts .. took it mostly easy ( you know what I mean ) and i get away from a light leaving the guy on his 20km old 14 .. and pull a small wheely .. get to 3rd or so and go to stop for a light .. I kick it down and there was a rather nasty miss and then into first for a locked up rear ..
I think that sucked .. but on I go .. threought the gears a few times and then I'm in 5th .. go to gear down and nothing ... the shifter is like it isn't attached .. there is resistance like from a spring.. but no gear change.
I hobbled to the meeting .. then home where I am now .. and it's still in 5th .. any ideas ?
I may have had my chain a bit tight .. but there is NO way to get the gear to change .. something just isn't connected .. warranty issues from changing out the rear and having this happen ? and wtf happened ?
thanks

Sounds like your shift fork is bent or seized, or your shift pawl is broken. Put your stock sprocket back on and take it to your dealer. Might even be the clutch not disengaging.

What did you use to try to get the front sprocket off..an impact gun? If so, you may have bent something inside the tranny if the bike was in gear when you did it.

Broken shift drum, ratchet fork. It will allow shifting in one direction only.

it won't shift in any direction .. runs great for 5th tho ..
it's in the shop now .. and if you look at the front nut holding the sprocket .. you'll see the square part .. that is what mushed a bit .. just trying to turn it. the end part is obviously not able to take the 125 ft. lbs..
so I'm told no worries .. it's covered .. big relief .. they are guessing that it could even just be a spring .. I hope it's open tomorrow and I'll post what really broke. It likely from my missed shift in first .. and just took 10 mins to fall apart or break off or whatever happened

well .. looks like it is a simple spring that got tossed out ..
no charge .. change of oil and they will be switching me to semi-synth for free .. so that's good .. and I only have to wait for the seal to show and I'm on the road again .. once the snow that just fell goes .. again !!!!
so if this happens to you .. just remove side cover and re-attach the spring .. I'm guessing I won't be the only one with this to happen ..
