Laser radar tickets and discrimination.

Any advice would be great, especially from a Canadian Officer!

Got a ticket yesterday.

got some questions for worm or others with laser experience.

How accurate is it and within what range?

I was the only vehicle, just crested a hill, might have been speeding a little, but believe it or not was riding responsibly.

He said he clocked me doing 100 km/hr in a 70km/hr zone.
Thats like 60 in a 50 mph zone...
Obviously they don't ride rockets, thats like 1/16th throttle difference in 5th gear.

They did this to me last year as well, ticketed me for 10km/hr or 6 mph over ...
Gimme a break, I was not stunting was alone on the road, and was not doing 100 mph
Fuckin jerkoffs some of these guys are...
Its like harassment,

Its like this.....

" we know you speed, we can't catch you, so we fuck you around game they're playin with me. "

I'm not 18 yrs old, I'm 36.
I have a familly and children.
I enjoy fast machines.
never ride irrisponsibly in town or around traffic...
seems reasonably responsible enough to me!!!!

back to yesterday...
I politely disputed him.
My speedometer definately never registered more than 90. definately.
100 even.... 1-0-0- ? How ironic it is? such an even number?
not 102, or 97 or 93 ? 100 even ! Bullshit I say!
I was doing more like 80-85 .
I call bullshit.

They had radar traps all over town, and were making a point of pulling over bikes, as I saw buses, and cars speeding through the other traps, without being pulled over.

Issues I have with this are discrimination, and the fact I was riding responsibly, and within the normal traffic speeds, regardless of the speedlimit.

I was maintaining a safe margin of space ahead of traffic, as it suggests to do in the rider training manual handed out by our government.

There is a lot of debris on the road and I was ensuring I can see it before riding over it.
Winter sand has not been swept off the roads yet.

I ride responsibly in town, stay away from the stunting squids, and go out of town to play.
I'm really pissed because I maintain my responsible behavoir only to be handed a bogus ticket.

He comes back to me and hands me my ticket telling me how he did me a favour and wrote it down to 90. Waited form me to thank him... ha . never ... a favour would have been inspecting my insurance and registration, and pulling over the last 5 cars who burned up the yellow light instead of stopping for it. That would be a favour for all bikers.

3 other bikes pull up and get pulled over, he says to me " they fell into your trap?
WTF is that supposed to mean. I have seen and talked to these guys before, but iwas not riding with them.
Any suggestions, or idea's to have this ticket dismissed?
I'm going to fight it, I don't care if I loose.
The money is not an issue, its the points, and the fact I really didn't deserve it.
I was not travelling any faster than the other traffic, just ahead of them like I said.

BOGUS!! I SAY!

Otherwise it was a nice day, first one of the season and put 400 km on her, even though it was only 50F outside.

Do they have to calibrate the laser units everyday, like radar units?

Thanks.

sounds alot like the BS ticket I just got, 43 in a 35, but I looked down and saw 39.

Grrrrr. I'm having a big problem with paying this or admitting guilty when I wasn't speeding more than 5 mph over the posted limit and that was because I was watching traffic not my speedo.

The one time I rode without the audio link to the detector, I was only going from my house to a place 4 blocks away.

Oh man, I really want to freakin break something

Maybe they get so ticked from the one that got away that they ream a new one to whomever they can get to actually STOP.. Not ALL but some cops actually hate bikers. I've ran across them and received a ticket for something I never did.. To my amazement the judge believed me - the look on the cops face - priceless.

I know i sound bitter and that because i am !!!!!!! If you would have been drunk and riding a hardy Dickerson he would have never pulled you over .....The fact is they all hate sport bikes and you are riding a sports bike so you have a big red target on you ..At the very least the lawyer will get the points knocked off...Smokin...

Smokin, you are totally right about the sport bike thing. A friend was with me and he just got a cruiser, and I think the cop actaully clocked him catching up to me, but it seemed like he pulled us over but made a few comments about how he could have kept on going. And he didn't have his endorsement or insurance, he still got the same ticket as me, but the focus was totally on me, sport bike, icon leather jacket, the works.

1badzx12r, good point. I do remember a time or to in the triple digits cresting a hill to a suprise, but I think he was suprised too and didn't clock us. so it's all good. each time we go out I wonder if.......

He was pissed cause if they can't read the plate, there is a 95% chance they will never catch you....

So yes, he was painting me with the same brush,

And anytime the police have been around I have been caught, even if I was innoccent ... just like this one.

i will fight it , I don't care about the money.

Alright I am going to give out my secret I dont normally tell this but here goes... If you know a mechanic preferably one you are close friends with have him right you a repair ticket for Recalibrating Speedometer with a bogus number on it like recalibrated 9% or whatever it would be to show you were going under the speed limit show it to the judge and say soemthing like "Your honor I make it a point not to speed as I am a family man and cant afford my insurance rates to go up I dont mind at all Paying the fine but is there anyway you can keep it off my record so it doesn't affect my insurance" I have used that more times then I can count and most of the time he will let you pay the ticket and wav e the points and not put it on your record... At least here in the states anyway I dont kno0w about canada... but also here in Arkansas anything under 10 MPH over doesnt go on your record anyway I always if I know I am getting a ticket ask the cop to right it down for 10 MPH over a lot of the time they will because the city or statge still gets there money it just doesnt go on your record... Hope this helps and next time do what most of us do RUN FOR YOUR LIFE LMAO

this is bogus #2 , now on this bike,
never mind all the other BOGUS ones in my past.

One time my buddy was speeding, I slowed down cause i knew there was a speed trap, but he missed it and took off.

The officer was running in the ditch with a battery pack and radar trying to lock on to him!

They flagged him in.
I was 1/4 mile away, but pulled in down the road to wait, then the officer drove down and asked for my info.... he wrote me a citation, and the gun was never even pointed on my bike!
I wasn't speeding!

Fuck dirty cops...

I fight every ticket I get. Guilt or innocence is not really the issue...........it is who has the best story. The last 2 tickets I have got were for approximately 15 kph over the posted limit or about 8 or 9 miles per hour over. I have been lucky I have never been clocked while actually 'speeding'!!

One was in my car, the other was on my SV 650.

Went to court on the bike one, lost, but was able to get in written down, saved a point and some $'s, but it still shows as a conviction.

The current one I got last August, I delayed sending it in almost to the court date, but I mailed in I wanted to appear. Court date was in Feb. I went to court house a couple of weeks before my trial date and had it moved to June.

Just got a letter a few weeks ago with the crown prosecutor asking if I am ok moving the date as they are not ready to procede (cop probably on holidays) I will show up for my trail date in June. There is probably a good chance it will be thrown out. I had the same circumstances before and it was thrown out. Judge was pissed at crown prosecutor for not being to able to procede on the original date.

In any case I have delayed the ticket.

I changed insurance companies on the '14 this spring (saved 300 dollars). Only one ticket showed on my abstract, would have been 2 tickets if I had paid the one I got last August. Probably would have put me into a higher risk category.

Always fight the ticket, some times you get lucky and the cop is a no show for the trial, you can almost always get them written down at the bare minimum.

i don't know if this helps u or not and depends of law in your area. i normally regardless of what, will plead not guilty and trial by judge or jury. you buy yourself alot of time this way. the last ticket i got the court date set for 8 months later. FUCK THEM, BUY AS MUCH TIME POSSIBLE) sat in court and cop who gave me the ticket showed up, so i knew it won't be dismissed. they called my name and i sat in front of D.A. and it comes to negotiation and i pleaded guilty and she drop the amount of charges to half and never went on my record.
defensive course another way to dismiss this and help on your insurance, i don't know that is available where u are.

writing down my conviction is mute as it is a small ticket, and they did write it down.

The demeanour they had, the nicely rounded 100 km/h he supposedly clocked me at, the vehicles they were pulling over.... only bikes.... and the "your trap they fell into" statement made by the officer makes me believe they were discriminatory.

I rode through 3 of their traps that day and was being very vigilant to be a good boy.

They were determined to nail bikes, and produced a fraudulant speed exactly 100...

yeah right .

When i pulled my helmet off , he knew I wasn't worried.
He saw a grizzled mature man who he was attempting to fuck.
I was pissed, and he knew he was wrong.

Writing it down was in hopes I would then forget, and not fight it.
I'm not buying that bullshit,

When they actually clock me speeding, I will suck it up and pay..
but not this one

I know they will be in court, they handed out many many tickets yesterday.
If the prosecuter runs out of time, do they throw it out?
How many days, appearences can they defer it?

The other one that I have heard works is to declare innocent by proxy (write a letter). If you do this with a detailed explaination, the cop has to do the same thing. Most cops will turn up to court because they get overtime pay to attend, far fewer will go through the trouble of writting in an explaination.
