Pics/vids from my day at the drags VI, ZX14 turbo hauls ass
The day started out great. Want to say thanks to ZXBob, and Richard for coming out to help. Thanks also to Bob for taking the video, and Richard for the pics, you guys were invaluable.
I started out with having to make on more licensing pass before I could go all out. I launched fairly softly(1.69 60' time) and got on it hard until the 1/8 mile, then sat up and rode it the rest of the way down the track. The time was 9.603@127mph. Ooopsss, wasn't supposed to run a 9 second pass yet, so back into the lanes, and this time I ran a 12 second run, so I was now good to go for a full out pass.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that we had the boost turned all the way down to 5psi.
The first full pass I made was kinda comical, to me. I couldn't find the rear foot pegs to put my feet on, so you see me on the video at mid track sit up on the bike, looking for the pegs. I also missed the shift 3 times, into the rev limiter.
Pass 1 results: R/T: Don't care; 60' 1.579; 1/8 5.385@133.460; 1/4 8.808@166.164mph.
The pass felt effortless, and it didn't feel as fast as it was. The bike was perfectly stable at speed.
I made a few more 8.8x passes, with similiar mph.
On my last pass, I bogged out of the hole. The steels in the clutch are pretty warped as I have to hold the front brake before I launch. Needless to say it was impossible to slip the clutch, so all my launches sucked.
Last pass: R/T:Still don't care; 60' 1.706; 1/8 5.984@133.259; 1/4 8.914@168.345
Here are some pics that myself and Bob took;

Man, it looks like you had a blast! Was that a Busa you dusted in the second video - It was a little shaky! You got my mouth watering for my first drag meet.

That was at 7lbs. We cranked it up after the first pass. It's still well short of the 14lbs I saw when we played with it on the dyno. At 14lbs it made over 300hp with no tendency to detonate. I just don't think the track/bike combo will hook up with that much power. After we cranked it up from 5 to 7, I spun the tire a little on each run. Biggest problem was the clutch, which I will replace today.
Planning to go back out again in 2 weeks. Also gonna stiffen the rear spring, but on a new shinko ultra soft, go down one tooth on the rear sprocket, from 44 teeth to 43 teeth. Still have the 17 tooth front sprocket though.
We're hopping to get 170+ on our next outing, and at least an 8:40.
Fish; PM me about the sticker, we'll talk.

Dunno, I'm running Sunoco 118 octane race gas. I think probably about 7psi.

I wish ya luck Iflyphi...
Nice ride BTW, once you get it dialed, on prepped track, your gonna phly !!!
That thing aint even breathing hard yet? 7 psi?
WOW!
You need to get your hands on 3-4 sets of clutch plates, 3-4 rear tires, spare chain and sprokets, and take 2-3 weeks off work and hammer on it.
You won't get it dialed in till next year if your workin all the time!
Sounds like an awesome vacation too!

Hey iflyphi can i say something without you getting upset???? I hope so cause here it comes ....You would have run 170 MPH on the last pass if you would have tucked in and got your feet up faster....You are sticking up above the wind screen like a good hard on...lol.... You killed off a good 3 mph...Maybe more. I loved the Video and running 8.80s second time out is fantastic .Smokin..

Not really. I have an extra set of body armor that I wear, and if you see it from the front, im pretty aerodynamic in the tuck. That's as low as I get. Feet don't really matter much as I get them up before I hit over a 100. Kinda need them to help steer with a little body english, as the front end is off the track a bit.
The 8.80 was the very first time that I was allowed to do an all out pass. I only made 2 passes before, both were in the 11's for my license. Then I came back and had to make another two license passes. Two because on the first one, I rode it down the track to a 9.60, so I had to do a re-do at more than 9 seconds.

I guess we are going to have to cut your tank down so you can get lower .......OR let me ride it ...lol ... J/K you are doing a fine job riding it ..

Considering you are still in the 'test & tune' phase, pretty impressive performance. Top speed at the end of the 1/4 shows how much power the bike is making!
When you get it all dialed in, it should be pretty amazing!

with that kind of HP you should probably switch to a M/T and I would think if your Multi-stage is set up correct you would not have very many problems with your clutch...
Great updates!!! Thanks for the report!!!

+1 He is going to be very very fast.....This drag racing is not an easy thing to master and even harder to master with as much HP that his zx14 is making . For him to run 8.80s with just a few passes shows the man has some skills ...Mark my words he will be running low 8s soon...
