Well i'm glad to know that... So i can say KHI has sold me their last bike... Simply cause i know they gave a free upgraded bike to a celeb and we the customers foot the bill...When we the customers have to fight with dealers and KHI to get a simple warranty work done.... On a side note RT still have nothin for me
Are you serious 1bad? You've bought your last bike from Kaw because they gave a bike to someone you don't like. You paid your 11k+ for the product, not for what Kaw chooses to do with their profits. I could see if Kaw was using their profits to fund drug trafficking or something, but giving a bike to a celeb!?
What if Kaw had a free giveaway and you won, would you decline out of concern for the consumer "footing the bill", I don't think so. Unbelievable. You have purchased your last vehicle of any kind under those demands.
I didn't said i dislike Ludi... I said i don't think he should be called a BIKER ....IF it was only KHI'S profit i wouldn't care less... But KHI will jack price's on bikes ,apparel, and parts... to pay for the adds... KHI is a company and company's got a 1/4 quota to meet for stockholders ECT ECT ECT.. and if i won a drawing today i would tell them to stick it

1Bad, exactly. Kaw put one of their products in the hands of someone who could market their product. In Maxim mag, maybe in an upcoming video or shows around the country attached to a celeb, that's part of marketing and I'm sure is part of their annual budget.

Look. 1bad makes a compelling argument but let's be a little objective here. Ludacris gets a free bike and probably a perversely large check to go along with it, and in return he puts his name on the 14 instead of the Busa. Luda is a household name in an enormous market of bling modders, a market that Kawi and Roaring Toyz desperately wants and NEEDS to remain on top. The things they give to Luda are a FRACTION of the worldwide machine that is Kawasaki's advertising budget. Paying for advertising gets them MUCH more money in return, and that is what Luda's purpose is in all this. They give him a bike and he uses his fame to sway the simple-minded American consumer whom actually think owning the same things that their stars promote will not only make them appear cool, but also will guarantee them quality merchandise because there is no way their favorite artist would deceive them and advertise a product they do not believe in.
Look at Puff Daddy, or P-Diddy... wait. Is it just Diddy now? Anyway, he advertised for Pro-Active acne solution for over a year (most likely without a single bit of research). He put his name on the product and got his fans to buy it then he turned around and SUED Pro-Active because it made his skin break-out. Of course, will this poor sense of judgment stop his fans from buying his clothing line, or his cologne, or his fried chicken & biscuits? Okay, I made the last one up.
Just as Kawi gives Rickey Gadson and Roger Hayden free bikes for winning races, they donate a custom bike to this rap star for bringing his fan base to them. A boundless number of simpletons are going to pour their hard earned cash into the company because of Luda's ad, and part will go back into the budget for getting another big-name celeb to take pictures with their bikes, but hopefully a higher percentage will continue to be dropped into research for the continual production of the fastest land and sea machines on the planet. Not to mention Roaring Toyz will prosper from this as well because they get their creation advertised in one of the most popular magazines in the country and get PAID for it. I do not know much about Roaring Toyz yet... but they made an awesome machine and I would FLIP if they did that to my bike... just without quite so much bling, and maybe throw my name in some Gator Glass. But alas, although I consider myself wildly fortunate, I make a pauper's paycheck and do not retain such abilities.
I do not think all who purchase Kawasaki products to be foolish. The people on this board are knowledgeable and purchased their bikes because it is certified through experience and research that these machines are superb. I am referring to those who actually will invest in the ride or go to Roaring Toyz for paint ONLY because Luda is promoting it. Bike Theft. Greedy dealerships. Lack of motorcycle dedicated repair shops. High danger ratio. These things are what increase the cost to the consumer... not advertising costs.
Good night all! And props to Stevewfl for making the most diverse, argumentative, and interesting post not in the Smackhouse!

Well said - very well said.
I guess it'd be better for us to realise that we aren't the audience the campaign is aimed at (and probably be eternally greatful that we aren't), while, at the same time realising, that KHI have probably got a fairly large potential market there that the adds that appeal to us don't get a reaction from.
KHI would be making a bad business decision if they didn't try to grab this market.
Should they care that some of this market is more likely to use the bike as jewelry? Probably not.
Should we worry? I guess thats a matter of personality and our own prejudices. I personally would rather not see those that I consider pathetic excuses for humans, tossers, wankers, losers, idiots etc (I'm not trying to highlight anyone or any group here) riding the same bike as me. Have actually seen more people that fall into what I consider this group riding 'busas and are happy not to have seen many on the 14's.

Ha ha ha! Raband just made me think of the funniest image! I just pictured Luda going back to his friends wearing the 14 around his neck like Flava Flav used to wear that big clock!!!
I don't mind the wankers buying the bikes, just as long as they don't run into the back of my ride while trying to show-off doing a stoppie! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CXhVY68fB8 ____________

I'm not hating on Luda - he's making money..I'm concerned that that Joe Blow newb will get a Zx14 then get in over there head leaving the dealership. We all know what happened when Fast & Furious and Biker Boyz came out. Or worse trhe newb will take out a innocent bystander or biker trying to keep up with experienced riders. Then we wonder why Progressive has the ridicolous rates on the 14.. All this stuff goes hand in hand.

Yeah, well said SJ1400. But let's not forget that if Luda does not come around there will ALWAYS be someone there in his place. I LOVE SPEED, and that is why I choose to ride the biggest production bike in the world, but there are riders out there with much more experience than I, as well as some riders that barely ridden but just show more talent than I, and I accept that because I know my limits. I can keep up with the pack (when they are not trying to keep up with me) but I also know where everyone is going to meet-up so if they do dust me I know where to find them. Also, I never learned how to stunt. I rarely do wheelies and when I do them it is never on the highway, or standing up, and it is never to show-off to some crowd that would end up laughing at me and my woe's soon after they make sure I am not dead.... heck, some probably wouldn't bother to wait. But as you said, SJ1400, it is the newb's that buy this bike that become the problem, and it is THOSE people you can blame for secondary flies!!!!
Kawasaki is doing what they need to do. The flies are not because of US, it is because of the "Luda lovers" that are drawn to the pretty shiney's of Luda's blingage that keep us from having all out pleasure right out the box. Luckily the world is full of our Tool Man's and our FBA's to help us work around the inconvenience. I think some responsibility should be on the dealership as well. They are the ones that SHOULD help tailor you to the right bike. If you've never ridden in your life and you weigh a buck 20, and are 5' 7", then they should warn you of the terrific danger you are taking on and not just say, "Hey! It looks good on ya! Did you say that you would be paying by check?"

It's not just "Luda lovers" that necessarily are the ones buying the 14's and Busa's and getting in trouble. It's the relative newb who buys the used 600's a a first bike and rides with his friends who have the latest and greatest and can't keep up, so they step up and purchase the ''big bike'' and get in over their head too soon. The big bikes behave a lot differently than the Honda F2 and the like.
It's normally peer pressure that gets riders in trouble just like the vid NinjaNick posted above, showing off for the friends and riding above one's limitations.
