Mtc lock-up
After playing around with my mtc lock-up for the past few days here is what i found. If you install a stock clutch back in the bike you will not get the clearance recommended from mtc between the pressure plate and the fingers. They tell you to adjust the stack hight to get between .100 and .125 of clearance. With a stock clutch your looking between .80 and .83 thousands, ok so i pulled all the stock fibers out of it and just put zx11 fibers in it and kept the 1st fiber with the chatter rings. Now i have between .90 and.92 clearance. Next i pulled out the 1st fiber and replace it with all zx11 fibers and i get .100 clearance...perfect. The springs are soft but they give you spacers to stiffen up spring pressure. I'm just going to replace mine because they had awhole year of racing on them and had been shimmed. I hope this helps anybody out trying to set up their lock-up.

Handy info, thanks for sharing.
Need to clarify...
So you replaced 2 fibers with zx11 fibers? otherwise stock ?

nope, all fibers are zx11 fibers. Crotch rocket pointed out to me the fibers are like .001 thinner than the stockers..so i used all zx11 fibers in the clutch and it put me right at .100...which is what mtc wants. If the space is not big enough the fingers wont get the right leverage and won't push hard enough on the pressure plate. I'm trying to get it back together because it goes to Ryan this saturday for a dyno tune. I wanted to tune on u4 but it doesnt look like im going to have time to order some. I have to call VP direct to get any around here.

i'll post some et's when race season starts...were not as lucky as some people who can race year around. I have changed so much this year...11 over, lock-up, trac spring, metzler tire and sidewinder. I'm hoping for my fat ass to go 8.90-8.80....maybe squeeze out a 8.70. I need to loose weight and i wouldnt have to put all this money in my bike...lol

I'm quite sure Ryan will have a couple of gallons of vp-u4 to sell you!
Thanks for the info!

I have yet to have any problems with my MTC multi-stage. But, I have only made two half passes on it. I'm using the original clutch, with about 100 passes on it, so I don't think clearance is an issue.
Do you have the two stage, or multi-stage??
Does your go "clunk-clunk" when the stage starts to lock up?? Mine did, but it might have been the chain doing something weird as I had a missing master link clip at the time.
We'll know more next Saturday.

Regarding the "clunk-clunk". I don't know if it will apply to the 14, as it uses an uneven number of arms, but I have a MTC multistage lockup on my 12. I had way too much weight on the arms and didn't properly use the springs in back of the arms for a sequenced lockup point. When the arms locked up, the whole bike shuddered and the chain would slap the swing arm, which could make the master link clip come off. I found a local racer here who helped me adjust the springs and arm weights properly and haven't had any more problems. No burned plates or anything.

According to everyone I've talked to, MTC is supposed to have these things pretty well dialed in for the bike you order it for. Considering I got the first multi-stage lockup for the ZX14, I'm not sure that is the case.
I'm gonna run it on a dyno this Friday, and we'll pay particular attention to the lockup. Gonna race it on Saturday. I don't know schitt about lockup clutches, so this is gonna be a new experience for me.

To be honest the only time i got to ride it this year i couldnt get it to hook. I know i did a slow roll on and at the top of first it blew the tire off and i know it was locked in because i couldnt pull the clutch back in. I only have the 2 stage so i'm not sure if im going to feel anything when it locks in or not.
