fuel cap whistle
new guy. i have a 07 14. after driving 5 minutes or so my fuel cap whistles whitch tells me there's a lot of pressure in the tank so i took it to the dealer and they came out and heard it and told me it was normal. i dont think it is so i checked the vent line that comes out of the tank and it is not crimped anywhere. it is loud has anyone else had this? does it sound normal to u?

Ya, mine does it all the time. If it's parked in my garage and I roll it into the sun it will start whistling after a couple of minutes, or after riding. I'm not sure I'd call it normal but I don't see how it would cause a problem. The pressure should never get to a level that is dangerous. Keeping some pressure in the tank is probably part of emissions regulations.

i thought part of emissions was not to let gas vapors into the air but maybe that's just for cars. when im getting gas sometimes and open the cap it sounds like a bomb add a spark to it and it would be. at least i'm not the only one maybe it is normal.

If a little whistle and fumes scares you, just wait until you break in and pin that new bike!

Both my 06 ZX-10's and my 07 ZX-14 has this whistle; standard Kawa feature along with the whine in 3rd gear.
My impression is that the whistle it is more an effect of suction (i.e. negative pressure) than positive pressure.

Yeah, my 01 zx6r did this as well. My 14 does seem to whistle louder though, but yeah it's normal. If it didn't do that the tank would probably explode, taking you with it, OUCH!

Mine definitely whistles from positive pressure, not a vacuum, thus the whistle when I move it into the sun. As far as emissions, you give of a LOT less vapor by maintaining that few psi of pressure than you would if there if there was no pressure, that's how vapor pressure works. My guess is the whistle starts when the pressure gets over a certain limit and begins to release. The fumes in your face shouldn't be nearly enough to do any harm, unless maybe your smoking and really close when you open it.

they all whistle, even in the brock diary, and like steve said, the whistle is the least of your worries, just get some clear space in front of you.... and whack it
