I wholehartedly agree on your opinion of AR roads. They are a BLAST and always well maintained! I rode AR341 last fall on our ride back to TX from the Dragon, and I had a ton more fun on 341 than I did on the dragon. The major difference is that the Dragon is all 1st and 2nd gear stuff, while on 341, I spent most of my time at the very TOP of 2nd gear and 3rd. Those speeds suit the '14 much better than Dragon speeds.

My other favorite '14 road in AR is the Talimena Scenic Drive between Mena, AR and Talihena, OK. The road is always well maintained, but usually a little better on the OK side. It's full of tourists on some weekends, but we usually ride up there on a Friday and have very little traffic to deal with. That road is a high 4th and 5th gear road for the '14 and you can haul-ass through the whold thing if you keep you eyes peeled for the occasional deputy or park ranger. Sight distance is great, but my V1 has saved me a couple of times up there!

When I retire, I want to move to AR and ride 3-seasons of the year on those awesome roads!!!

I took it for a ride today with a friend of mine that has a Z1000 who knows how to ride the curves. The sole purpose of the ride was to put the lean angles of the bike, myself & "pipes" to the test... Would they drag or scrape? We ended up on a desolate short section of country road that snaked through an area about 3/4 of a mile long with no intersecting driveways or streets. Seemed like a safe place to conduct the test, so after two runs through the area to ensure we wouldn't encounter any surprising road hazards or debris it was time to get started. The max speed limit posted was through this entire portion of roadway was 35mph, not sure what state road engineer came up with the speed limit but they might want to reconsider it in at least a few of the curves. Several of the curves resembled a few places that reminded me of "The Dragon". So this was a great place to put the pipes to the test ,and without breaking any traffic laws... 35 mph seemed to be the max speed for the Z1000 in some of these curves, even with it's nimbleness. So, after several attempts while trying as hard as I could to drag the pipes, I could not. And at one point I even tried rocking the bike deep in the curve to scrape, but could not. So my synopsis of the "Qwick Pipe" conversion for my driving style, wants and needs for "MY" 14 are in... Will they drag? With me onboard at the controls, no. Do I like the look? Yes! Sound & performance? Oh, Yes!!! And how bout the cost? Well I'll have to say, " It's the best damn $36 I've ever spent ". Just remember, if all the bikes on the road looked the same, it would be a bit boring out there. And it's not what you buy, it's what YOU build. Be safe. Qwick

C/Rocket, That's funny you mentioned that, cause I've definitely been needing to tighten it and I did so today, along with my first oil change. I just had the "riding fever" and I don't have a shop to do the work at night or on rainy days, so I finally had to give up a nice afternoon off to change oils in both 14's and tighten up many bolts again too, along with my chain, instead of riding "again". Thanks for the heads up on it though. I had to tighten the chain on my wife's 14 at her first oil change also. Seems like the initial break-in puts a good stretch on the chains. But hers has been fine since.

Badzx, I did the same to my Vmax this past October, but I modified the stock dual exhaust system and converted it into a 4 to 1 with a single 3.5" chrome tip. Sounds undamnbelievable!!! You'd swear it was a small block Chevy V8 if you had your eyes closed when you heard it. I never did finish the baffle system that I was wanting to make for it... My wife kept getting pissed at me for riding her red 14 while she was at work. She finally even started hiding the key from me. But then she made the ultimate mistake... Told me that if I liked the ZX14 that damn much, then I should just go out and buy myself a blue one. Well hell, no sense in arguing with a woman who makes perfect sense. So I spent my next day off traveling to North Carolina to pick up my wifes "GREAT IDEA". Did I mention that "I Love Her "!!! And now I have a really clean & loud Vmax for sale. LOL

I thought I had a nice wife. Damn, QWICK you are one lucky guy. I was getting my wife into riding last year and now after a lecture she received she won't touch one (motorcycle). I thought it was so sexy when she would ride my bike.

I did ride with QUICK a couple of days ago. It would really be hard to get thees pipes on the ground. Yes, put it on a track and hit mother G's.. its going to scrape in high speed left or right. Put it on the street, not very likely. The pipes actually follow the original "stock" pipe route from the connector toward the rear. Only the diameter of the pipe changes (they stick out further). No doubt they could be made to scape. I do believe however, that the pegs would hit before the pipe. You can put as many lines on the pictures as any of you want, it would have to be in deep at high speed to scrape. As the days get longer and warmer and the roads up in the mountains get clear of the winter debris, I will invite Qwick to "head for the moutnains" to test them out proper. The way he rides, and what he is taking as his idea of what he wants the bike set-up to do.... no scraping!

zerMATT, you were right... I have gotten a lot more confident with the handling of the 14. And riding the curves is actually becoming a bit addictive, and I love it. I've trimmed those chicken strips down also, bout 3/16" now. And the best part of it all is that I've yet to drag the pipes. But I'm sure it's gotta be getting really close, so I'm gonna make a few adjustments to the mid pipes and tips by rotating them in slightly to tuck them up & under the bike a bit more.

I made me a set of these with QWICK'S help. I have to say that they sound great. I used a little different materials then he did. The first set I did was to loud, but I changed the lay-out of the baffles and added one and it sounds great. The SM at my local dealer says he thinks they would be fine to run as is, but I made a couple mods and want get it dynoed before I run them. I made all the final adjustments, but need to finish up welding and grinding. I will post up some pics soon as I have them. I have about $60 in mine, but I started from scratch and bought or fabed everything.

...does this mean that the asses of those with undertail exhaust systems smell like exhaust pipe?...and, no, I'm not going to volunteer for ass-sniffing at the local hang-out ...that's blue's job

Thanks Fury. I've decided to use the stainless clamps for now instead of welding them on... It enables me the opportunity to remove the large stainless steel resonated tips that you see in the pics and quickly install a shorty set of chrome tips using only half of my baffle system. Made for a lot of fun at Hooters on bike night to see the faces on the Busa Boys when I came rumbling in. Those guys just never seem very friendly, lol. They all seem to be stumbling around in a daze waiting impatiently for Suzuki to answer their prayers. And word has it that Hooters is adding a new item to their Hot Wings menu.. I fixed it up.....

Not to hijack the thread....

I saw another bike that had pipes that went up to the bracket that the cans mount to and I thought it look terrible......juat long pipes - not even straight - w/ no cans.....

I like the stubbies here and I have seen an R6 like that, but it was just a single sticking from the lower right and very loud when he got on the throttle.

...just a comment on the body-colored windscreen: ...I was thinking of doing the same to my 12's windscreen since bigger guys like me don't benefit much by tucking low and getting under the paint on these bikes on street rides...looks way cool...every Paso-like ....I like!

...and QWICK, you QWICKR ARE my new HEROES (this week )....nice job! ...if there was was way to pinch them closer together under the bike and make the tips slash-cut (or baloney-cuts for us old-school kids : p), that's the way I'd do mine..

Wormie, I can do that, but it does require me to have them welded on. And I'm just about sure that's what I'll be doing next. I just wanted to leave my options open for a while to make sure that I was happy with everything before I made the "permanent" decision to have them welded on. And if welded on, I can actually tuck them in almost a half inch more on each side which would surely further prevent them from scraping while leaning in the curves and would also look even better too. So yes, you are right.
