I think they could touch a little

If the pegs touch then the tip may touch - and my pegs are gound down some.

I could not go 5 miles w/o a ticket for noise, but the look pretty good.

With the turbo cutting the sound a bit it may be ok....we shall see (or hear)

Ninja, as your illustration shows... The pegs will make contact with the ground long before the pipes do, as there is still space between the pipes and the red line as seen here. Not to mention that the ball at the base of the drag post would first have to be completely ground down before the pipes would touch. There is still tolerance in the adjustments on the pipes too... If the short mid pipe is loosened and turned in slightly then the stainless tip can be adjusted and tightened as to be even further away from the "scrape zone". So if one's riding style has concerns with dragging the pipes, a 5 minute adjustment can cure that problem. I myself would be at my limits by just scraping the drag post themselves, so I'm content with the present mounting position and could always make adjustments if I was ever get fortunate enough to ride on a closed course or road track.

My point is that when the pegs touch they MOVE BACK and I would rip the hell out of the tip in it's currenr position. I am not knocking it - I like it, but if you ride like this:

Yellow is dragging area - red is a hole....

In some cases, it's not just about cornering clearance; it's also about ground clearance. It should be checked in fully bottomed/compressed out mode. On some bikes that we may be concerned with, we will pull the shock spring(s) off and check the "cornering" clearance angle in the fully bottomed/compressed out mode.
Ninja 14's picture is a good example. If you lay the bike over in a static unloaded position, I'm not sure you would think the fairing could drag. But of course it will when ridden with a passion like he shows....

Ninja, I agree with you and I welcome your points. I wouldn't want someone who is really into the hard core curves to be interested in these pipes. I would highly recommend a proven, quality set of Area P pipes for that. That's what helped me take a chance at fabricating my own idea... I knew that if it didn't work out, all I had to do was pick up the phone and order a set of A-P's from Kerry. Infact, I may still order a set of the 14" long pipes that have the 2.5" spouts. As you can see in the pics on my wifes red 14, her Area P pipes still look brand new and have a superb sound... Best we've heard yet! She pulled along side of one of the guys at the drag strip who was running a set of Muzzy pipes on his black 14, and let's just say that she was smiling big!!!

The really big reason that I came up with whole this idea of mounting the pipes down low was to keep the hot stacks from burning my daughter when she was near my bike. I'm not a big fan of the low heat carbon fiber look, so that was not an option for me. She also rides with me on occasion so I reinstall the foot pegs for her when she does. And if nothing else, "It's definitely different".

Thank you Sir. And that really is the truth, so I don't mind saying it. One motto that I've always had is "Give credit where credit is due ". And in this case, that's very true. I wish you the best!

When I had my exhaust system off the bike to put on my 2Bros I liked the open look. I fired it up w/ just a header and .....WOW - that's loud :-) If the turbo does make it quiet enough I may make something like what you have.

I fixed it up.....

Not to hijack the thread....

I saw another bike that had pipes that went up to the bracket that the cans mount to and I thought it look terrible......juat long pipes - not even straight - w/ no cans.....

I like the stubbies here and I have seen an R6 like that, but it was just a single sticking from the lower right and very loud when he got on the throttle.

Halvefast, I took the bike out for a 2 hour ride today and when I got back in the driveway I did a test for you on the ankle roasting theory. I turned the R's up to 7,000 and positioned my feet every way possible and wasn't able to get my pants or boots hot... In fact, they weren't even much more than warm to the touch. So, looks like running them at the track would be pretty "cool" too. Also, the total cost was only $36 using the stock mid pipe section and also a few of its internal parts along with the stainless tips that I purchased at a local auto parts store. As for trying to reproduce them, I'd really rather not since none of the fabrication steps involved a jig. I just tried to wing it by cutting here and trimming there... mostly just took a chance at it since they didn't belong to someone else. But, if you're really interested in fabbing up a set I'd be more than happy to talk with you and send a few pics of the pipes off the bike and disassembled if it would help you. Just let me know.

How's the riding down in South Carolina - I might have to work in Charleston for about 6 weeks in March-April. Thinking about taking my bike. Probably beats keeping my bike locked up in Virginia Beach.

ic , no problem what so ever with the air / fuel. I was only about 22 miles south of you when I was riding today. You could have checked out the pipes in person and we could have rode for a little while too. We need to get together.
