change the chain before is too late! hey guys, yesterday i went to area close to my home where bunch bikers do wheelies and qtr miles, we gather around on sundays( i drove my car since i don't have a bike for now) one of the guys who has 05 r1 racing another guy and guess what the chain busted going around 100 miles in 2nd gear in his r1.
well we thought that would be no problems just get a new chain but we opened the front sprocket cover and saw a 8th of inch hole in the engine
he had 7000 mile on his bike and never replaced the chain.

7 K isn't alot on a chain in fact that's a small mount. What kills a chain is neglect!!!!!!!!
edit* 7K on a chain that sees nothing but constant trips to the drag strip or being jerked on doing clutch up wheelies is a ton! Consumable parts vary according to use. Your friend just got schooled on that it seems.

I have got to agree with Gunner on this one... and who know's how loose his chain was??
did it have stock rims? could be a lot of different things that caused this. was it an OEM chain?
I have heard that Busas used to have a HUGE problem with the same thing... one of my buddies had less then 100 miles on his did the same thing...

yab... probably, no proper lubrication, or loose chain and he does wheelie and stoppie the shit out of that bike, he weighs about 250 pound and sometimes he does wheelie with his girlfriend!!!
maybe someone upstairs giving him a little early warning!
