Have any of you heard of ppl using a mini air compressor for an airshifter? I met a guy a few days ago and he has an air shifter from Schnitz Racing but said that he has a $15 mini air compressor mounted inside the front nose of the bike that keeps the airshifter supplied with air as needed, therefore there are no bottles to fill, etc.

Anyone with any insight on such an item?

Hello,

Yes you can get an air compressor mounted as you specified. Some of the air shift system companies sell air compressors for this, but they're pricey. You can get the same thing, literally!, by buying one of those cheap $10 air compressors from Wal-mart or whatever, open it up, and remove the actual compressor from inside. You can then plumb a pressure switch to the outlet port, and wire it to turn the compressor on when the pressure falls below the switches preset pressure rating. Note though, that you won't be able to run your shifter directly off the compressor, you'll need some sort of tank between that and your shifter to serve as an accumulator, similar to the picture shown a few posts up. Otherwise, you won't have the pressure or volume to run your shifter.

Alternative. I have seen people modify their swing arm to serve as the tank. Make sure it's sealed, usually is unless you have a moisture drain hole, which can be welded closed. Drill and tap a hole, and plumb the line from your shifter to it. For easy refilling, add another port with a tire valve.

Hope this helps,

APKdevelopments, do you offer a kit for the 14? I didn't see anything on your site for one.
