I hear ya on the saving money. I just cant stand to see such a good looking bike and it seems that everyone leaves the wheels alone. They are so easy to paint, just knock it out when tires get changed. Cheap too. I do them all day long for 125-150 bucks.

I am a technical adviser/ rep for the PPG paint distributer AutoBodyColor and Supply. It is paint, thats all I do. On the wheels I use a semi-gloss clear with a mar-resistant hardener for strength. I have done most of them in the oem frame color. Dont forget the fork legs though. I have done most of them ON the bike with a rattle can.
