TRE Question

My wife was kind enough to buy me my dream bike for Christmas this year. My question here is I know they have a TRE for the Busa it bypasses the MPH limiter and a few other things. Do they make one for the ZX14 that does the same or is there more to buy/ do to it? Thanks...

THe TRE for the ZX14 does NOT disable the speed limiter it tricks the bike into thinking it is in 6th gear and causes the secondaries to open sooner thus resulting in a increase in low end torque and HP but it cost 70 bucks and you can just remove the secondaries for free and get more gain, but you still have a speed limiter... if you are curious about removing the secondary throttle bodies (flies) just do a search it is probably THE most talked about topic on this forum

I would advise removing the secondary throttle butterfly's and fitting a Power Commander so you can re-map the fuel injection. Also, if you are serious about the 186mph limiter it sounds to me like you will be doing some more modifications in the future and the PC will be on your shopping list sooner or later, so buy it now. The best way to overcome the speed limiter is with a Speedo Healer, there is lots of information about that on this forum.

You also lose the use of the gear indicator display with the TRE - it will constantly say 6th gear.

Ya, forget about the TRE, just pull the secondaries, and make sure you get a PC3 or you could end with engine damage from the TRE or pulling the secondaries. The speed limiter is set at 186 actual for the ZX-14, which is 200 indicated. You can use a speedo healer to correct your speedo to actual, then you'll be limited to 200 actual. You won't get past 192 or so without some mods though, so the stock limiter isn't all that bad. You could also do like me and get a 18 tooth front sprocket (~$25), which gears the bike up 5.6%. That would put the limiter at about 196mph actual.

If you search the threads you'll find the info on the fifty cent resistor that makes up the guts of a TRE.

I like my gear indicator light working accurately, so TRE was never an option.

In terms of the TRE-008, yeah, I agree, pulling the flies and adding a PC is a better way to go for max low end power and best throttle response. I've had experience on my 14 with both options. The TRE-008 is a minor improvement and pulling the flies is a big improvement. Right now I'm running with flies out, Brocks Gen 3 StreetSmart exhaust, and
Brock's flies out map in the PC. Bike runs great. Only issue is a backfire if you chop the throttle during a decel. Seems to be an issue no matter what exhaust system you run and is associated with how Kawasaki set up the decel fuel flow, which cannot be modified with a PC. There is a TRE-006 which supposedly eliminates the backfire by tricking the ECU into thinking that the bike is in neutral rather than 6th gear, which changes the decel fuel scheduling. You have to fiddle with the PC mapping or buy the PC from Ivan. You can read his propaganda on his web site at: http://www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/tre.htm. I have no experience with the TRE-006 so I can't say whether it really works or not.

If you purchased the Brock system, he will tell you what to do and send you the mod to cure your backfires. Just thought I would let you know.

Ivan's TRE isn't the only such product in the market. Gipro and G-Pack lock the 5th gear map and disable the speed limiter (according to a owner testimony, the bike tops @193 mph). Gipro can be switched off for track days and it also brings its own gear indicator.
