Gas mileage map

I'm wanting to make a high gas mileage map for my 14. Brock suggested just subtracting 5 across the map on the power commander. He said it would give a bit more power too but might run hot in the summer. I did that and it didn't seem to help much. Anyone else done any experimenting with this and have any luck? What I'd really like to do is put a really efficient range in my map at cruising rpm, say 3500-4800 rpm.

Phytrax, not trying to be a smart ass, but if you want good mpg you should of never started to mod it. Try building a low 9 sec car in the 1/4 and still get 38 mpg. With my smeg and track map I still get 38 got around 46 to 48 before mods.

I got a 06 250 ninja that gets 75 mpg. bought it with the zx1400 and gave it to the wife. its a blast to drive. try taking the 1400 to 14000 rpm. the 250 will do it. roll on power is a problem and you need a good head start on the hills. but still a lot of fun to drive. handles great in the turns. cant beat the gas mileage

Phytrax,
If you are serious about your mileage- we are now offering Innovate LM-1 wideband A/F ratio meters.

We do not have them on our site, yet- should be up next week?

Here is a link to some options:

I'm not overly concerned with mileage, just looking for a little something for nothing. I figured if can adjust a small section of my map and get 5mpg that would be awesome. A 20% drop in power from 3500-4750rpm wouldn't be noticed in the 1/4 mile with stock wheelbase. I don't know how you were getting 48 mpg though Bently.

I'm probably getting just a bit better mileage now than I was before all the mods if I take it easy. At 80mph I can get right at 40 mpg if I baby the throttle. Riding normal, having a little fun I get around 36mpg. Before the mods I was having to downshift more in the twisties and only got 32-33 mpg when having fun.

OK, I don't get out onto the Interstate much but I've yet to see the high side of 30 mpg average. Still better than 10-15 on my Boss . . .

Try getting past 3rd gear Stalwart !

If I keep it in 3rd I get 25-27mpg, 29 in 4th. I have to ride pretty hard to get under 30 mpg.

I get about 35 mpg - that's about it. Still beats the Yukon at 14-15 mpg - so I'm doing better

Wow, 48 mpg? I average 28 mpg on the street with the 12r. Sometimes on really extra stupid hard rides its been as low as 22 mpg. Suprisingly with the 1375 it didnt change. I thought it might drop lower but it didnt. The highest I've seen on the highway was 38 one time.
Interesting.

I think with the mod's he's done...his mileage would increase...I know mine did once the fly's were removed and the pipe was installed...add his 18T front and that should get even better.

I only see about 30 combined...but I kick the crap outta the beast every chance I get...if I go easy, I get about 38 highway...but I never do.

Goldwings don't get such hot mileage KR...

Interesting,
I've always been able to kick the mpg up compared to everyone else with just about every bike I've owned. This is not true with the 14, If I really baby it (and I mean more than normal) I may be able to push 45 MPG. On one of my trips earlier this year I did manage 48 MPG. Normal riding 41 is the MPG, I guess my 14 is just thirsty.

Do I ride like a Puss?..Just ask my 17,000 mile front tire. God willing this puppy will see 20,000 miles.

41? Most of us see well below that - your 14 is NOT thirsty.

Phytrax was right, I rarely leave 3rd gear for most of my riding . . .

I'm bad at making fuel mileage unless I'm out on the freeway with enough traffic to resist playing. My worst was on my Boss when I ran low on gas at 62 miles on mine and about 55 on the wife's trike. Not bad for 8 gallons of gas

the 14 runs more efficiently at higher revs and is way more fun...try running @45 mph in a given lower gear and then run it at 60mph in the same gear..you might be surprised at the results..it's counter-intuitive but my bike gets better mileage @ a higher speed in the same gear... once you find the " pocket " you'll understand...find the sweet-spot...and who cares what your mileage is on a zx14...are you riding this thing???or what????

I hope you're only 16, that's when most people grow out of obvious smart ass statements and at least become creative smart asses. If you were actually trying to be helpful, I'll apologize before hand but I doubt it.

I have no regrets buying a 14. Best bike I've ever had, hands down. Like I said, I'm just trying to get something for nothing. Doesn't everyone want a bike that's 200lbs, does 250mph, 8sec 1/4 mile, can run motorcross, is comfortable for 12 hrs, can carry 3 tons of luggage in the mini wormhole bags, and gets 200mpg???? I know I do.

I'd definitely like to have a Vstrom, but I'd probably go with the 1000. I would like to be able to cruise to Wyoming, etc, then hit some dirt roads and such when I get there. I REALLY, REALLY wanted to do that kind of stuff with the KLR650, but it's murder on the highway without a big windscreen, and kind of squirrelly in any case above 80mph. I just can't see myself riding the KLR all over with a big wind screen, I'd have to kick my own ass for being a retard.

48mpg, damn
Only way I can do that is riding about 40mph in 6th gear.

I've done some experimenting like this and haven't found this to be true. Give me more info on how you're doing this so I can try it. You using avg mpg indicator? instant mpg indicator? You have to be very steady with the throttle using instant or the numbers are meaningless.
