Experience w/Flys Out

I know alot of folks have been running with flys out and allot of folks have been quite happy. What I would like to know is there anyone who has done this modification that hace had second thoughts. Any performance or reliability problems or any regrets?
Thanks for the input.

I say remove them and never look back, I really don't think you will see the power commander folks doing anything like that in the near future.

kspz3 I understand your reluctance, I wrestled with the same thoughts.... However, I had them removed, installed a Brock Gen 3, PCIII and can NOT imagine riding it stock again.
Have only put 9500 Ks on my bike this year, and NO problems what so ever.
Good Luck with whatever you decide to do.

I only regretted not removing them sooner.
If kawi wants to sell the bike detuned, they should offer it as an option
Many magazine articles would have been rewritten with this bike uncorked.

Never saw any reviews with the flies out.
The articles all praised the bike already but imagine what they would have had to say.

The general public reads the rags and has absolutely no idea what the true potential of this bike is, once uncorcked.

This vid sums it up .
Like RG said.... less than $1000 woth the stuff.... oh and they say this still had the flies in!

One of my fav's . I watched this vid almost daily like a kid waitn for Christmas, waitin for my bike to arrive

Finally took mine out 2 days ago with the help of a buddy. Now it's time to get rid of the bulky stock exhaust.

I'm still waiting for someone to comment on removing the flies, but using no PC. Do you burn valves?

A few have commented on that, but I don't recall anybody actually experiencing problems. Several have hypothesized that you might burn a hole in your piston, but others have responded with a reality check that the engine doesn't spend enough time under load at the lean RPM's involved to do any damage.

I think there are several people out there that have removed their flies but didn't do a PC, and nobody has admitted to experiencing any engine problems as of yet.

you cand do it but you will be running lean/rich as hell. You need the PC in order to tune the shit out of the bike afterwards.

I am running the bike stock exhaust, with flies out. I have 6500miles on my bike. Flies have been out for a over 5000miles. Haven't burned a hole in the piston, no problems at all, just a hand full of power. Bike still is strong. I have raced the bike with this set up several
times down the track. I wouldn't run the bike like this forever, and I am sure the will run much smoother with PC. I am going to purchase a power commander and pipe real soon just need to figure out what pipe I want.

I've had my 07 14 for about 2 months now. I came of an 01 zx6r. I'm getting used to the power below 6000 rpm's and starting to tap into the power above this. I have already put D&D slip-ons. I'm fixing to get a power commander and was wondering if this, with the pipes, would increase a noticable jump in power. I don't want to remove the butterflies just yet because I don't want to kill myself.

Well, below 6000rpm's it's very nimble. Will the pc help in power below 6000 or does the butterflies have to be removed to notice anything?

the pc will help, there are maps for slip-ons that come with the pc or are available from the pc site
once you have the software on your computer you can look at the settings at different throttle positions to see how much fuel is added, it is way cool, plus you can add the accelerator pump feature

If I did remove the butterflies, would it be scary to ride. Like if I'm in a curve and I try to accelerate say like an extra 5mph or so, will it try to break loose or anything like that? I know this bike is pretty much made for straight line performance, but I like riding curves and the 14 feels good in a lean. It will probably be spring or summer before I try this out because I plan on hitting the drag strip and show up my friend R1.

Just relearn how to ride it, for a week or so and you will be fine. You should always be a little scared (ie. respectful) of this bike, the first time you are not, is probably the time something will happen.

Yeah, I agree. People keep asking me how fast I've had it. When I tell them I've only been 120mph, they ask me "why I bought it" and stuff like that. People just don't know how silly quick this bike is. And me coming from a zx6r, I have to be careful. I've been 150 on my old bike, but it took a little while to get there. THIS bike accelerates so quick, I find myself letting off around 7500-8000 rpms at like half throttle. During this winter, I might go ahead and get me a programmer and take out those butterflies. That way i'll be used to it come spring time.
