There is another 1098 forum getting one helluva a start. Fish I hope you get the majority of that bike's hits right here. I'm not going to post the url but I'll try to interest some into coming over this way.

I'm very interested is why I've been peeking at the other forum, but the taste of the maintenance costs regarding the 1098 are still a turn-off for me.

Well.. I dunno if the costs are all that high... my duc's maint costs were considerably lower than my 10r and my 12r.. (this surprised me)... a lot had to do with the lack of bodywork and easy of access to bits that make the bike go.

Thanks, I'm trying to be open-minded to Ducati. They're an icon, and I hope they offer the japs some competition that is oh-so-good for consumers.

I guess I'll have to dig up all my Ducati pix... shit... I may have to scan them in... that was before I owned my digital camera....

I traded my Duc 900SS in on the 12R... I always wondered if I did the right thing...

I went back one week later to visit my bike and it was sold... someone bought it the very next day

...me, too...I wish I could buy one....I wonder if I'd fit on it?...it may look cool, ride cool, and make me feel cool about the bike, but not cool if its not a reasonable ergonomic fit even if it only for the Sunday ride...

I read somewhere that Ducati is doubling the maintenance intervals on the 1100 dual spark vs. the old 1000. If they do the same with the 1098, I will get serious about putting one in my garage.

Found this at the Ducati site.

50% less maintenance cost on every 2007 Ducati
We are proud to announce that all 2007 Ducati models require less frequent service, fewer parts and less labour during each service and, as a result, greatly reduced scheduled maintenance costs - by as much as 50%.

Reducing the cost of service when you visit your Ducati dealer for maintenance is one way to measure the new quality of Ducati. It also contributes immensely to making the Ducati ownership experience as satisfying as the Ducati riding experience.

Research and development is the number one investment at the Ducati factory. This investment in performance and quality includes our factory processes, machinery and the people who build each Ducati. By 'engineering-in' quality through design, materials and testing, every Ducati owner will enjoy significant and quantifiable improvements in every Ducati motorcycle.

To a rider, the best measure of quality is by the riding experience. You can feel a new smoothness to the legendary Ducati L-Twin, a more progressive nature to the powerful brakes and more confident road holding in every turn. Reliability and quality - one ride is all the proof you will need.

50% less - 100% Ducati - standard equipment in every 2007 model.
