zx14 power reply

Thanks for the feedback.
Probably a power commander and pull the flier would be the best set up for my budget. I stay stock for now.
Don't get me wrong I think the bike is pretty special. Yes, the poor times are a result of my poor riding, no argument there. Practise is the key. I weigh 225 lbs suited up.
I am at a loss to explain why I couldn't get any better than 1.95 sec 60' on that day. I did have problems with power wheelies ect.
Heck, I ran 10.30 @ 137 mph on a Z900 KAWASAKI 20 years ago, which would have made less than 135 HP at the rear wheel.
I'm going to the track next week to try again. I would like to see what times are possible completely stock with no strap or lowering to compare to other stock bikes I've run in the past.
By the way, I have never ridden a Hayabusa even though they are very popular here in Perth Western Australia.
To do all the mods covered in Brocks Diary would cost over $3000 here AUS.

Our track (Motorplex) is very close to sea level. The quickest A class street bike in Perth is a 1400 cc Hayabusa and has run 9.17 sec a couple of times. Several other similar bikes are in the 9.20 area. A friend of mine has run 9.26 seconds at 155 mph in B Class Street bike on a ZX-10R. This is under the National Record for that class in Oz. He was making 162 H.P. last year (head never taken off engine) and ran 9.39 sec then. He says that on the very same dyno the stock 14's are showing 157 h.p, only a couple of h.p. more than a Hayabusa or 12R (150-155 H.P)
The quickest A class street bike in Australia has run 8.87 seconds at 163.82 mph with a GSX1100 Katona at 1803cc. This record has stood for 4 years.

Australia, Street bike classes: A-over 1061cc, B 801cc-1060cc, C-up to 800cc.
Rules- street tyres only, no frame mods, no extended swing arms, original cases, cylinders and head must be used, no after market fuel injection, full street equipment in working order, no centrifugal clutches, no wheelie bars ect.

To my knowledge, no one has run anything like a 9.20 on a 14 here in AUSTRALIA, although its still early days. To all you guys that are running mid to low nines on your 14's I take my hat off to you! Boy have I got some catching up to do.

or you could have just gone on a diet and get a good stainless pipe and pc3 and removed the flies for the same price- not to mention all the money youd save on grocery bills... and as a side effect youd be able to talk to women without thoroughly disgusting them.

Greg,
Welcome to ZX14.com..... I was in Perth earlier this year - beautiful place - as nice as any place that I have ever visited. Mine is set up for Land Speed - I practice run at the local drag strip - test and tune - just to get seat time at speed. I am 235 suited. Lowered 1.25. Brock SMeg and PC w/PC shift button. 18/40 gearing - tall for LSR - therefore 3 gear pass. I soft launch to emulate LSR - (i.e.full tire preasure - 42psi, no burnout and untreated pavement ), 93 octane, stock throttle plates - although recently playing with IVAN's TRE - 60s in the 2.4 range usually - run low to mid 11s - Best top speed at 143MPH - typically in the 142 MPH range - track at 1500' above sea level. I typically pull similarly set-up Busa's by 6 or 7 MPH at the top end of the track - in other words - if we are at similar speeds at the eigth (111 or 112 MPH) I will have them by six or seven MPH (142xx vs 136.xx) at the top end. They are typically running 9.9 or 10.0s. In Florida I ran next to a couple the were at 117 or 118 MPH at the eigth while I was at 111MPH - By the top end I was running 142 and they were 141. They were running 9.7s - I was doing the mid eleven soft launch thing - makes folks shake their head when they see the slo ET and the high MPH - the 14 definately has motor. The Brock set up gave me a 10-12% increase in performance. I dynoed at 187.34 on a Factory Pro Eddy Current Dyno - SAE correction factor. Although my times are quite distorted as a result of my soft launch, the top end MPH tells the story regarding HP. Hope that helps. Kevin

Hi Greg

Hiya Greg, nice to see someone else from Perth on this board. Probably seen you about somewhere. The Dyno run your friend is talking about is from my bike just after it's 1000km service. Since then the engine has free'd up somewhat. PM me your details so we can catch up and compare notes. I was a little dissapointed with bottom end power but now I ride above 4k rpms. What fuel you using? BP Ultima or something with lower than 98 octane rating?
