Trouble with Shinko

This is the first time I've ran a shinko. This damn tire spinning the whole track! Is this normal for a tire with about 50 miles on it. I mean i could have stayed with the stock tire. it did a lot better than this.

OH also is a Usoft? I have has my best luck with a Usoft shinko set at 24 PSI with a long arm , If the track is not hooking i have had to go down to 18 PSI .....A Shinko unlike a Battlax needs a big burn out to work.... If you have a stock arm i would say go back to the Battax and run it at 35 PSI like i do.....At stock wheel base i had to run the shinko at 25 to 28 PSI to match the hook of the battax at 35 PSI....... Remember track temp plays a big part on how the track hooks. To cold it's spins , to hot and the track gets greasy and you will spin... I'm betting your track is cold this time of the year , so you will have to drop the PSI in the tire....Smokin..

regular r003 .. well that is your spinning problem.......At 7 inchs over your psi on a Usoft would need to be very low to hook...You need a Usoft ..Smokin..

You have too much air pressure. Drop it down to 16 psi, and if your track is not hooking, you may need to go lower than that.

I damn near put the tire in flat today and still was spinning. I just thought about something. I went down 2 in the front so I am going back to the stock sprocket. (17) That will also bring the tire in a bit so we will see where that goes. Unless somebody leads me to something else.

Look at your tire and if it doesn't say Usoft on it you have a reg 003 shinko... Your are never going to hook it a reg 003...

Wrong. This race season I ran a standard 003 shinko. The only time I spun was when there was something on the track, or I forgot to lower the pressure.
I would have thought the same thing when I bought it, but it proved to be very sticky. Best 60' was a 1.43, not spinning.
I have a usoft now sitting in the garage. Once I fry the clutch(its still the original), and the tire with the turbo, I'll change it over.

Pricewise, you can get the ultra for about the same money as he regular. I paid $120 shipped for a new ultra. Good deals to be had, but you have to look in the "other" crazy bike web site.

Sorry i'm not wrong ... I had one on my zx1200 with 7 inches over and it never hooked like the Usoft did .....In order to get it to work half ass i had to run it at 7 psi.. The Usoft i could run at 24 psi..Glad it worked for you but it doesn't work for everyone ...

Used to be that was all there was, so I'm told. Now with the ultra soft, thats obviously the one to go with. I hooked up regularly at 7" over and 25 psi with the standard 003, but I'm a lard ass compared to you. More weight, more traction, I guess.
Like Brock said, you gotta break them in. I burned the shit out of it on some of my first burnouts, that did the trick.

There is virtually no price difference anymore, so I will go with the Ultra.
Used to cost me $150 years ago for a 10"X18" Goodyear racing slick. I'd go through 3 of those in a season, but man would they hook up.

I'm loving these shinko's now. For a little over a hundred bucks, you can get plenty of passes out of them, and really long, 2nd gear smokey burnouts don't seem to hurt them much.

You're right i'm sure the extra weight plays a big part in getting the 003 tire to hook. I just ordered a Usoft for 118.00 to my door for when a do add some arm to my bike..

spencer cycles has good deals on shinko. and smokinzx14 the old 003 never hooked with my 200 hp 8 inch zx12 either. i like the u-soft shinko it has never spin on my n20 zx10 6 over. the only thing is that they are a little heavy.

I probably got close to a 100 one a 003 non-ultra soft, and it was hooking better and better. Best 60' was in the 1.40's.
Will change it for next season after I sacrafice it on the dyno.

I currently have 110 passes on my 180 U-soft, and it still has all the grooves visible and still cutting 1.34 60' times, I expect at least 50 more passes, maybe more.
..and I do John Force burnout's too!!!!

I got 200+ passes out of my 003 shinko....not a u soft. I do 5-10 sec burnouts rocking the bike side to side to heat the whole tire...1st gear...about 4-5 thousand rpm's.

thanks to all but I have lowered the pressure to 5 psi and the damn thing still spins to hell. After about the 5 pass, the bike hooked and stood straight up at 7 inches. that was the only time the tire hooked. Oh yes i will be going to the u soft next time. lesson learned.
