I plan on putting on some slip on mufflers. Will this ease the heat problem ? I've heard that putting on after market mufflers will ease this problem a lot. The bike seems to throw off a lot of heat. It's not bad in the fall but I'm afraid in the heat of summer it could be a problem. Is there a set of slip on pipes that are plug and play ? If so any suggestions ? Lee

Lee, I have a Brock SMEG system and the heat is still there when that fan comes on. It really isn't too bad while moving but just move your leg down when sitting still in traffic or whatever the case may be.

My feet (heels mostly) got hot with the stock cans. I replaced the cans & mid pipes with a D&D setup (all aluminum, no cats), and the pipes were still cooking my heels on warm days. I then wrapped the mid-pipes with 2" heat wrap - PROBLEM SOLVED.

If your heat problem is from the pipes, get rid of the stock cans and go with something that has no cats. Then wrap the mid pipes. If your heat problem is from the engine (air coming back to your calves/ankles, then there is no solution yet.

Yes on the heat problem! Big Time! I burned my legs twice on my stock pipes, and then went with Area P carbon slips and love them in every way...

The black ones are soooo sweet. I put the centerstand on mine as well. Dont sweat the heat. Put 4 or 5 thousand miles on it and go synthetic...runs much cooler.

Losing the cats really helps the passenger's feet, since the cats are in the front of the cans.
I went with the Area P polished SS, and they also have carbon fiber, depending on your tastes. Click on the SPONSERS link at the top of the page.
Lost the heat from the pipes, lost 15 pounds, and gained a nice throaty sound without being obnoxiously loud.
Not much power gain, but the Air/Fuel is still good w/o a tune. Plug and Play - Yes!

You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Only heat I've noticed is around the calves, not on my feet. Solution: go faster. I should mention that I haven't noticed it much lately. 3200 miles now, put in synthetic at 800 miles. Maybe it's the synthetic, dunno.

+1 Plug and play. The bike is set up to run rich so it's close to perfect with slip ons. With a full exhaust it may run a hair lean but not enough to worry about. Brocks's Gen3 full exhaust adds about 12-14 hp with the exhaust and only 3-4 more hp with the PCIII map.

+1 For burned legs. Burned my right calf twice pushing the bike in the garage. Full exhaust will eliminate this totally (left can gone).

I know I'm gonna get flame for saying so, but there are more older guys than I expected riding 14's. I didn't think this type of bike would appeal to many guys over 40. I'm 32, I kinda expected by the time I was 40 I'd be more interested in a sport tourer, but who knows. Only 14 I've seen in my town so far is a guy in his late 40's.

But this bike IS a "sport tourer"... for 30-somethings.

Some of us "OLD GUYS" can still ride and kick the crap outta them teen punks. Hell, most of the younger riders I ride with can't keep up with me in the turns on their liter bikes against me on the 14. Sure, they can stunt great...but that's about it...I like to ride. I like the odd wheelie now and then, but the ride...that's where it's at. (for me anyway)

Maybe its just me but the heat has never really been an issue with my bike. It can get pretty hot here in the summer and I have more of a problem sitting in traffic with 100 degree temp with my full face helmet. Feels like my head is being cooked.

I'm in FL, and haven't had any more heat on this bike than any of the others I have owned. Actually less heat than my ZX9. Of course I replaced the stock exhaust, but that goes unspoken regarding any bike I own.

My 4 to 1 carbon Yoshi helped . These 14 should not be sitting for a long amounts of hot time without moving air . 2 months ago in Las Vegas it was very hot & could not legely split lanes so on long lights I would shut the motor off turn the key on and let the fan run . fire her up just before rolling this helped keep her cool.

Heat is also not a problem on my bike either, with the stock exhaust or Brocks. Most high performance bikes are goint to throw off some heat.

I traded a '03 ZX9 and '05 ZRX1200 for this bike.I NEVER had any heat issues with those even on the hottest days. The 14 is getting to really be a problem on long rides. My feet and lower legs get so hot I return home when it gets annoying.I wear calf high race boots, anything else and I literally get burned.Maybe this bike is missing some type of baffle.I am going to let the dealer look at it before I get rid of it.I don't intend to flame the bike here,I love everything else about this bike.

I'm 46 and this bike absolutely ROCKS! Wouldn't ride anything else! It does throw some heat at a stand still but that is to be expected!!! No more than any other bikes i've had. It does cool down with some miles. The cam chain rattle at start up (on mine) completely went away at about 1800 miles. (Full Synth) My right calf used to get burned but after I got my Alpinestars boots that went away!
