Knocking sound ..UPDATE Many many posts back myself and others reported a knocking sound at low RPMs ...My knocking sound was 1500 to 2500 and you could hear it best at 1750 RPMs ...This has been bugging me to no end since new !!!! I have been waiting for FASTDAD to report on what the dealer found when the engine was torn down ...
Last Wednsday Night at the track i talked to Johnny Turbo and he took a listen to my engine ..He told me it sounded like the ballancer shafts......So today i reset the ballancers and my knocking is GONE !!!!!!!!!!!! I only had to move them about a 1/16 of an inch and the knocking just stopped !!! The only sounds coming from my zx14 is the sound of my injectors......Man i'm so happy i didn't have my dealer take my zx14 apart like FASTDADS Motor .... Now i'm a real happy zx14 owner ....Smokin...

How do your reset the balancer?? Pics of how to would be nice. BTW, what did you run, now that you mentioned you were at the track.

Basicly you're resetting the back lash on the gear mesh... Read the manual for proper adjustment.. If your motor is knocking it would indicate that for some reason the motor isn't running smooth at a given RPM. This condition will cause the clearance between the teeth to bounce front to back..( a larger clearance will produce a louder noise) Just be careful to NOT over tighten the clearance.. Too tight is a very bad thing..

I have sound like that as well. Its sorta sounds like valves tapping at low rpms.
Smokin I would also like to know how to make this adjustment.

Ok here is what i did.......To set them .. Start bike , losen the bolt that holds the clamp on the shaft, rotate the shaft with a big slotted screw driver counter clock wise till you hear the ballancer start to make a whining sound...Now back it off just till the whinning sounds goes away ...Hold it in place with the screw driver and tighten the clamp .......Repeat on the other shaft ....Smokin...
Guys i'm not 100% if this is the correct way to set them, this was told to me by a friend that works for a Kawi dealer..He has been a Tec for Kawi for 20 years so i believe it to be correct way ......

Nelson the sound you are hearing is most likely the Fuel Injectors , mine makes the same sounds ...My sound was a loud knocking at 1500 to 2500 RPM .. It allmost sounded like a rod knock or bad piston rattle .....Smokin...

That was the night i ran 6.00 @ 123 twice ... Pictures later tonight.....Smokin...

The ballancers look a little like a small crankshaft without rods... The upper ballancer runs off the clutch basket ring gear and the clutch ring gear run off the crank gear ... The front shaft runs off the crank gear....I believe the shaft that runs off the clutch basket was the one making the knocking sounds.... The clutch basket has a little play in it and would mostlikey make more sounds because there is more slop in the gears... I noticed after i set the shaft that my clutch didn't rattle idling in (N) as much as it did before... Mine made noise from day one and got louder as i got more miles on the bike..That makes sence because as it broke in there would be more room between the gears... I think the factory just didn't get it set correctly... I only had to move it about 1/16 of an inch to make the knocking go away....If you don't have this Knocking sound i would NOT reset the ballance shafts...Smokin...
