Could you explain your launch to 60' technique? Maybe some of us "hard on the clutch" guys could learn something from you.
OK i'll give it a shot ......Stage at 5000 ... The clutch release is two stage ...First is to toss it out real fast to about 3/4 of full release.. That is what gives you a good 60 foot time .....The second part is a slow release of the last 1/4 of the clutch while at the same time twisting the throttle to full open

Just to let you guys know, what Lee described above is called the Snap 'n Slide

The Snap 'n Slide technique takes along time to get the hang of !!!...Talk to your local track manager and ask him who is having track rentals and then get in on them!!!

The Snap 'n Slide...Learn it, Live it, Love it !!!

Does anybody know correct stack height? I went to a dealer in town and pulled the oil cap off a new one and looked in there...it looks like the edge of the pressure plate is almost flush with the basket...

Thats how i saw that my clutch was wearing ... When i first got it i looked like you said (pressure plate is almost flush with the basket) After all the passes the basket was sticking out past the pressure plate........ Now it looks like it did when new ...

Lee, never got an answer to that...

The 12s are set the same way from the factory, with the same kind of clutch plate arrangement...As you proved that set up is good in the 14, but sucked in the 12 due to the diameter of the basket-hub-clutch plates being too small...

I took out all the small clutch fibers and replaced them with all the big contact fibers, same as the last clutch plate in the pic above and put all the frictions in line!!!...Never had a broken friction plate again, except when I got 125 passes from a clutch pack...

ANYWAY...If you use all the big contact fibers then you should get more Longevity...

Here is what my steels look like after about 60 passes. These were the fresh ones i put in after the last set of steels.

Here is my fibers....they look wore but are still useable. These went thru 2 sets of steels.

Here is the hub with the little groove marks from the steels and fibers.
....and here is what a spare bed room is for.....house smells like burnt oil now....

Compliments of Denver ZX14...The ZX11c friction plate (large contact material) is exactly the same size as 14 friction plate (small contact) !!!

I checked the part numbers on the ZX11c,d = same clutch plates!!!

Could it be less oil flow thru the zx11 plates pads ...than the zx14 smaller pads

**********UPDATE**********

I got a hold of the 3 different size friction plates for the 14...Spent some time measuring with the dial caliper and realized that the OEM clutch set up from the factory is the best for LONGEVITY and PROPER STACK HEIGHT!!!

OK...Let's go over the clutches in the 1st pick on top!!!

That first small friction # 13088-0032 is a key player in this clutch pack!!!...That's the friction with the rings and boy is it a thick plate with alot of friction height with a total size of .150, there is no way that badboy will break from the heat and the abuse of back to back passes

The 2-9 friction plates # 13088-0030 are real small looking, but made for keeping cool by way of the oil passing through and around the frictions with a size of .118...

Now the last friction plate # 13088-0031 is a little decieving to the eye...Sure the friction contact is longer but is .001 smaller in height than the 2-9 frictions before it for a measurement of .117...Which means what I said about using this friction as the 2-9 plates is NO GOOD!!!...If you use this last friction #0031 in place of the 0030 2-9 frictions then you will have a stack height that is .008 too short which will not give you the clutch life we all want Now if you do use this last friction as the 2-9 frictions then you need to replace a 2.6 steel with a 2.9 but still may not get the results of the OEM clutch set up since the 0031 friction is .001 smaller in height which will not last as long as the 0030 frictions!!!

I hope I didnt confuse anyone...Hope this clears up some speculation we had discussed in the past!!!

Hey FLATOUTBU...Make sure you buy 8 13088-0030 friction plates so you will have the proper stack height and clutch longevity again!!! Or get a 2.9 steel and switch it for a 2.6 untill your set up is worn out...

that's cool....i switched to all zx11 fibers this year and a mtc lock-up. I pulled all the fibers out and replaced them with the one size Zx11 fibers. I rode the bike for the first time today and everything felt pretty good. I havent rode the bike since november because of the weather. Hell i couldn't figure out why i was riding tonight with snow and sand all over the road but i just got it back together and had to try it out. I didnt get any traction...not even from a slow roll on. I think i got the lock-up set pretty well and it doesnt sound like somebody droped rocks in the clutch. The springs felt alittle soft so i might put the mtc spacers on them to stiffen them up alittle. The stack hight looks good...but the ol'e eyeball meter didn't do so good last year. Time will tell what happens...but thanks for the info, i'll keep a better eye on it.

hmm....after taking the bike for alittle ride and everything got seated the stack hight was waaay to short. I'm going to pull it back apart and play around to achieve proper stack hight.
