Didnt make as much power as i thought
Ok i had big hopes. Thinking at least 180hp. Oh well 176hp and 104tq. Thats with flys out,pc3, megaphone, made up k@n filter. zx1kr sent me a map. His map made 173hp and 99tq. Im going to send for Brocks maxton map and see if theres a difference. Also it was a dynojet dyno. Down here for the rally theres a superflo dyno. ill see if the dynos were the difference. Also it was in STD. The superflo rated my cbr1100xx some years ago at 133hp and 80tq. So we ll see.

I'd think you should have been higher, too, esp STD. I'm not familiar with zx1kr's, map, though. What does "made up k@n filter" mean?

I think he means he took standard K&N material, removed the paper element from the original filter and replaced it with the K&N material. Think I read that somewhere...

are you running MR9 fuel ? I have seen that Brocks maps are set that way. If it is anything like the faster burning fuels I run in superstock , you would have to change the map for that .

The made up K&N isnt made with with the K&N filter material, but the Pre Filter foam they use over their regular filters. Greg uses a hot melt glue gun to stick the foam in after removing the stock filter material. Then sprays the foam with K&N filter oil. Maybe its worth 70 Bux to some, but the pre filter foam was not designed to be oiled, or be the primary filter. I run the K&Ns on my Valkyries, and they come with the prefilter to put on top over the oiled K&N. Dont think I would jump at this deal untill there are some long term testing done...TB

Unfortunately, no matter how good a map is in one bike , it's just not going to be dead-on for the next as I've seen more times than I can count. What a "Canned map will do for you is: Get you out of the danger zone! You wont burn up your motor w/ a canned map. In most cases a canned map will make most of us content.
I'm not most of us!
If you want the engine optimized for most street conditions get it dynoed!
I have multiple maps for all my bikes, to run at their optimum in diff. conditions, tracks, altitudes etc.
There is a fair range of diff. from one engine to the next. Although, the 14s' have been very consistent.
Thanks for the compliment C-Steer!

All stock bikes make about the same power so if you made a stock baseline run (you always should) then you can figure out what PERCENTAGE increase you got - and that is what matters.......not the numbers shown.
Just because PEAK power does not move much doesn't mean the bike isn't better. I'll take 5TQ from 3000up over 10HP peak any day.....

You caught me at the beginning of a substantial amount of tweaking to that "Big Block" HD. Fully Closed loop EFI w/ wide band sniffers in each header.
I did ride it home about 4 hours after you left. It was running real sweet! Now I just have to dial in the clutch to handle 140 lb/ft of twist & it'll be done.

Serius blk,
Please go to the private section of our forum and re-read the ZX-14 Test and Race Information.
If you missed a detail in this area, correct it before you go back to ANY dyno.
In the ZX-14 area you will see that it refers you to our Busa area also- This Busa area is PACKED (12 pages!) with items which have caused owners to read low HP over the years. 90% of these same mistakes will hurt ZX-14 readings also. (I will be consolidating them this winter.)
FYI: a dirty (or rusted) drive chain can steal up to 10 hp- no Sh*t, I have seen it plenty of times- an incorrect (sometimes high or sometimes low) rear tire pressure can steal 10 also.....the chances of both items maxing out at once are slim- BUT, if you have multiple items each hurting 2-3 HP....well, you see my point.
It explains that dyno trips are usually a sobering experience which can be worsened by small items killing big power. It also explains that if you did not dyno your bike before adding your parts on the same dyno in similar conditions, you will not have a good idea of what your gains truly are.
Finally, all of our track maps will read lower dyno numbers in most conditions. The Maxton map is the worst for HP on the dyno in most areas of the country- it's far too rich to make max power from a parked bike....A.K.A- no ram air.
If you just can stand not showing good dyno numbers ....
Send me an e-mail explaining your situation- approximate elevation to sea level, temperature , baseline humidity, fuel type etc. and I will forward you a "dyno" map to work best for bragging to your buddies about your dyno numbers....then put the correct map back in to spank them in the real world!
We are here to help, just ask!

+1 on Brocks track maps, have not dynoed my bike or see any need to it's running 152 in the 1/4 with my 216 pounds on it. And thats no tricks and by tricks I mean non o ring chain, ceramic wheel bearings, zero weight oil, etc. Hell I'm still carrying the tool kit and have the mirrors on.
