Last night of dragracing
Last night was the last racing night of the year for us. It was really cold, no wind and the track was hooking. I got 4 runs in and then it happened again....clutch #4 went out. Oh well, at least i dont have to buy another one till next year. My best pass of the night was my first one 9.24, 9.27, 9.29, 9.27. I should have know something was up because the harder I rode the bike my 60's were slowing down but i was runing roughly the same speed. My last pass i pulled in the the clutch and the bike didn't want to stop....warped steels. Oh well...it was a fun year and i'm looking foward to a lock-up,swingarm and some wheels for next year. I want a consestant 8 second bike next year....come hell or high water!

How many times have you replaced the steels?
This is my first clutch replacement,
I'm just putting fibers in, this time.
What do you think you got out of this one, 100 passes?
And was it a totally new clutch steels and fibers,
and was it just the outside fiber (longer pad 13088-0031) used?

I burnt the original clutch out in about 40 passes. I bought a replacement clutch from schnitz and got about 40 passes out of that one too. The 3rd one i went with all the larger pad fibers and shimmed the springs and got about 85 pass's out of that. I warped the steels on that one so i just replaced the steels and got another 60-70 passes out of it before I warped the steels again. I'm going to call schnitz next week and get a 2 stage lock-up on the way. I'm going to replace the fibers and steels for next year and buy the billet basket and hub. I got 6 months to work on it so i'm in no hurry now. I got the bike in June and missed the first 5 races of the year. If i have to keep replaceing clutchs next year it looks like i would go thru roughly 5 of them.....which sucks. I have to get a handle on my clutch issues for next year.

With the larger pad fibers i went thru 2 sets of steels and if i wanted too i could still use the same fibers.

Bently...I think most of it is low 1.4 60's and just trying to get my fat ass moving. It seems like heavier guys are having the clutch problems. Not saying that is causing it, but just a observation. I also get alot of pass's in at my track. Normaly i let the bike sit 10-15 minutes between rounds trying to get it to cool off. If I make 2 back to back pass's the bike it'self is hot and i know the clutchs have to be boiling. I make usually 10-15 pass's every Wednesday night.
Smokin...Good job Lee. Everytime time i go alittle faster you match me with a stock wheelbase bike. I would like to see one of your pass's on tape. We would be a good race...i would jump out on you and you would catch me.....makes for good racing!! I would like to see what a guy of your size/skill could do with my set-up. My cousin (60lbs lighter) is a great dragracer and only made a few pass's on my bike but ran a 9.00 with it spinning the tire 30 ft. The gear that helps me so much kills him and the bike just wont hook...he ain't got the weight. I think a guy your size with 7 inchs of stretch and 16/41 could go 8.90/8.80 easy.

Yup i got to find someone with a video cam. I'd like to see what a 9.20 pass looks like..... People tell me i look friggen fast but i would like to see it ..
If we raced the winner would be the guy that got the holeshot, that would be cool to see .. I raced a Busa last night , big motor, sidewinder,Carpender ported head, 10 inches over on the swing arm and race fuel . It was a race bike , no tag and open header.. I chopped the tree down on him and had him all the way down the track...He just nipped me out at the finish line by inches. He was a very nice guy, not like the guys you meet on the internet .Some one told me he was running 9.20 flat . It was a very good race and that's the way i like them...He told me after the race that he didn't think he was going to catch me ... . Smokin...

Yea i dont mind losing races off the tree, that's the best way to lose IMO. When 2 guys can run so close to there dial-in that inchs seperate them at the line....that's what dragracing is all about.
