Replacement Tires

What tires are you guys running after wearing out the stock ones? And what is the widest tire that will fit? I don't necessarity have to replace my stock tire with a 200mph rated tire... Besides, if this bike was rated at a top speed of 300mph and the only tire available was one that cost a Grand a piece I'm thinking that most of us would probably have the same idea. 160-170 mph is plenty fast for the street and the thought of getting caught by the Police going that fast gives me visions of my 14 being carried off on the back of a tow truck while I'm handcuffed in the rear of a Troopers cruiser... NOT TOO GOOD! Any close-up pics of the treads would be helpful too. I'm really looking for a beefier tire to fill up the fender that has a little more profile and a little more width... Giving it that drag bike look. Thanks

I put Michelin Pilot Powers on yesterday. And sure a lot of folks will perk up and state they suck. Thats the beauty of those tires, not only are they the best....but they are loved by many...hated by those loyal to all the *others* and competing against them, but never ignored.

And something else that turns me on aside from those specific tires are chicks with better bikes and bigger guns!

I'm running a Shink U/S. I haven't had much success with it. But I'm still learning to ride. There's a fella bringing his bike to the same shop I am and he's clicking 8.90's in wichita with that tire. I had better luck on my 60ft's with the factory battleaxe.

Metzeler Racetec K1 120/70 in the front, Racetec K2 190/55 in the rear .
I swapped the front out about 300 miles ago just to test .... I LOVED IT !!!
The biggest difference in handling with just a front tire swap!
So i swapped out the rear today ..
I'll report my findings tomorrow after my SOCAL ride

Pilot Powers are great tires. Speaking from personal experience I only got 2000 miles out of 'em on my ZRX which weighs about 525lbs. Pilot Powers tread is soft and considering the weight of the 14, no telling what kind of mileage you'll get out of 'em...then again, depends what kind of riding you do on the beast. The OEM BT014 are great tires for the 14, very sticky when heated up and the only 200+MPH tire out on the market.

I think going to the bigger tire would only hurt your handling. My A1 ZX-12R came with a 200 series tire and I thought it handled much better when I switched to a 190. Just my 2 cents...

Yes only when heated up which seems to take forever and a day and still "slick " at temperature!

I can't do 200mph in the tight twisties and i'll never use the BT's ever again

Damn..where do you live?...in the North Pole? I have no issues getting my OEM tires to heat up and stick allowing me to fly through the twisties with speed and confidence
2000 miles on them and probably gonna need another set in another 1000 miles or less.
I guess this is one of those topics that's open to personal experience and preference.

The oem tires stick but not nearly enough with the feel i desire.

Be careful !
We already have one member here who lowsided with the oem tires

I actually thought the oem tires were pretty good untill i got Sticky Racetec's , now i realize what i was missing out on!

If you're into high mileage from a tire I agree the BT's are awesome. But please, lets not waste time comparing performance

Yes my front BT still looked new at 5000 miles , and the rear was starting to look worn at 5300 .
I could have gone a few thousand longer but i just couldn't wait any longer to get them off !!!

I'm trying a set of Conti's now
Road Attack on the rear
Sport Attack on the front
1400mi on them so far and still look like new
I'll get to test their side grip today
hill country ride, with 1bad, he's pretty fast too.
I know he got pretty good milage out of his rear conti.
Price is real reasonable too.

I'll probably try a set of Avons next.
I've heard good things about the street Shinko as well.

+1, bigger will certainly hurt handling but as someone else pointed out on here you can be "King of the Sonic parking lot" with the 200's!

My husband rides a Vmax, so I don't see running a 200 series tire being an issue for me. I've run the Dragon on the BT's and was very polite to my hubby and tried not to abandon him in the curves. His Vmax handles ok in the curves but the straight aways at lower speeds is where he tries me. Poor guy... Kinda like the Coyote trying his best to get that darn Road Runner.

Ive always ran the street shinko on the back and liked them. i dont know about the front tires, never ran em, but they dont seem like you could take curves QUITE as sharp, but then again the 14 isnt made totally for twisties (not saying they wont do it). when my sotck tire is gone, im goin with shinko rear, but all we do around here is dragrace

NICE.
A chick on a 14!
your husband needs new bike.
If I had a Vmax, I'd put a ssiy bar on it and use it to tour my familly around on...
I worry about them on the back of the 14.
I know that if I accidentally twist it, they be on the pavement .

The Vmax is a nice bike, but no match for the 14.
