Brock's Performance CRACKS the 200 MPH Barrier on the ZX-14

A mere six months after its public debut, the Ninja ZX-14 has already stormed its way into the 200 mph club. Chad Millholland became the first rider to run over 200 mph on a ZX-14, during last weekend's ECTA (East Coast Timing Association) speed trials at Maxton Army Air Base in Laurinburg, NC. Riding a Brock Davidson prepared ZX-14, Millholland tripped the timing beams to record an official ECTA-sanctioned pass at 200.92 mph.

The most remarkable aspect of the run is that it was made by a basically stock Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14. Brock Davidson lists the only modifications as the addition of his Brock's Performance "Street Megaphone" exhaust system, a custom map for the aftermarket fuel injection box, a re-calibrated speedometer, ceramic wheel bearings and some drag racing suspension tie-down straps.

"We used around $1,500 worth of bolt-on parts for this bike" said Davidson, adding "There were no internal engine modifications; we even used a stock clutch."

Davidson was so impressed with the ZX-14's performance that he made his own record attempts, noting "I really like what Kawasaki did with this bike; I've never done any land speed racing and even though I weigh over 200 pounds in my leathers, I was still able to get above 198 mph during my first few attempts."

Once Davidson was satisfied with the ZX-14's setup, he asked land speed veteran Millholland to step-in and try for a 200+ mph run. The rest is ECTA history.

It isn't uncommon for highly-modified race machines equipped with nitrous, turbo or superchargers to exceed 200 mph. However, a reliable, stock-engine equipped production motorcycle with minimal aftermarket modifications is different.

Accomplishments like this one serve to reinforce the Ninja ZX-14's already dominant reputation.

Davidson owns and operates Brock's Performance Products, which specializes in a vast array of performance products for sport bikes, for racing, and for street applications. Impressive but not that impressive. Doug Meyer ran 199.115 With just a Muzzy
exhaust. There are PLENTY of exhaust out there better than Muzzy.

are there? come on now... It's safe to say that the playing field for aftermarket exhaust is pretty level and the guys you see maiking these systems are dedicated enthusiasts.

It would be great if members stopped trashing different pipes. It's not fair to the people putting all the work into designing them.

aerodynamic drag coefficient increases exponentially, so any speed increase at these velocities is commendable.

When it goes 202 or better I'll be impressed.. Dan's 12R went that fast with the basic same mods 5 years ago. In fact it broke 200 several times with Dan, Zach, and Chad riding it.

I understand that on the day the 14 broke 200 with Chad on it's back the timing lighs were acting a little funny...... They were actually reading low from all reports I heard.. So possibly the 14 went much faster, BUT it's not in the books yet so Dan's 12R still has it by the balls

My reports come strait from Dan about the speed traps. I will also say that Dan likes the 14 and feels it's a better bike than the older design 12R. So I'm NOT slamming the 14! It will step up and be the top dog but I don't want the record that the MIGHTY 12R set to be down played to the Newest kid on the block.

so at maxton it's less than a 1 mile run correct..so with taller gearing and a longer track it can go even faster. were you guys running 60 psi in the tires and no air filters and the brake pads spread and oh come on and tell us the little details, everybody wants to know.
great job guys.
can you see the new busa trying to pass the 14 in the pic.
i think kawasaki played their cards the right way with firing the first shot and getting the 14 out before the revamped busa.the year after the busa is released a revamped 14 will 1 up it.
they sure better make it look way better.

Yup 196.1 but 196.1 is a long way from 200 MPH......It takes a lot to get that extra 3.9 MPH ...

Welcome to the 200mph club Chad.

Pardon me for pointing this out but as far as I know the first 14's to crack 200 were mine and another 200mph.org member at Woodbridge, England on September 3rd.

We both made several +200 runs on the Sunday afternoon, speeds all correctly verified. The best were 205.4 for my bike and 207 for the other guy. All posted on this forum at the time.

These were just one-way runs however, the guy who's the real deal is Flyboy who ran his 14 at Bonneville.

I don't agree with trashing any company, competitors within the industry I work in. And agree their are many of the best pipes created "almost equal", with very little standard deviation in horsepower, build quality, and weight.

However, one thing me and many others have experienced is the level and quality of customer service provided by many of the top manufacturers. And with that said, I know which outfit I personally choose to do business with today and in the future.

Guys,
THANKS for the props!

The "official" report was written by a PR firm for the manufacturer. It was not "officially" released from the manufacturer because their legal department canned it......???

They were convinced that we were the first to go 200 according to their sources. My apologies to Bob C for not knowing about their attempts across the pond!

There were MANY variables at the race. The clocks had problems, cross wind screwed things up...the list is long. Dave-O ran 220 the meet before on his Busa, this time the best he could muster was 215 and change even though he was on the rev limiter before the beams and his dataloger showed it was his fastest pass ever?

Chad did a great job! He aborted one pass because the cross wind was trying to push him off of the track so he slowed to crawling 189 mph....!!

These speeds are no joke. My 14 never stopped pulling; I wish we had more room....

I am currently writing Part 3 of my Diary about the Maxton experience.
It will contain most of the details. There was more than one ZX-14 present at the race. Perhaps the story of how a competing manufacturer's products faired will find their way to the pages of Super Streetbike magazine? My guess is no.

I will also not mention the gory details in my diary because bashing anyone else's stuff isn't very nice. We showed up at a sanctioned event ready to go, same day, same conditions and our results spoke for them selves...that's how we like to do it.

Thanks again and watch my site for Part 3.
