bah, the stock paper is really thick for a paer element, actually looks cloth.

Safe to pull the screen, mine has been gone for 9000km, no probs.
time for a clean filter though,

Most of the time the kn will lose you hp on a bike 1-2. Been proven on the dyno on the hayabusa board, so if your looking for performance stay away. if you just want something you can reuse then there okay. I have not priced the stocker but remember the kn is pricy and then you have to buy the kit to clean it.

Well thanx guys but until then I'll just run the stocker with the mesh removed. Some guy, who shall remain nameless purchased some of the K and N material and cut out the paper from his original air cleaner and shaped and moulded himself a new one.....

I custom made a filter for my 14 bak in june using readily available material from one of the above mentioned filter companies..was worth the time to do it,and am trying to find the time to make a second design for more air flow.the 14 needs alot of surface area as the filter shape is rather small.

I'll chime in on this one. I bought one from my new buddy Greg. I did a baseline and then put in the new filter. I gained about 1-1.5 hp accross the board and from 3k up i averaged a couple more pounds of torque. The best part was in the 3-5k area (torque) my bike now makes 90 ft lb's of torque vs. 86 ft lb's before@3500 rpm's. Additionally, the bike made 100 ft lb's of torque about 200 rpms sooner and held out the torque longer as well. There were no map changes made. I wanted to see what the filter change would do by itself.

Yes, the mod was worth money thanks Greg!

Greg - the guy over at ZX14.net. He is building his own filters using K&N pre filter foam.
