how long until you whacked it?

the bike i mean
i'm breaking it (black zx-14)in and have over 300 miles on it and it is getting harder and harder to hold back the beast within. i think it is safe to let the big dog eat but i want to do the right thing.... what do you guys think?

Many differing opinions on this subject so here's mine. After 300 miles the cam lobes are "shaped" and rings are already seated. You're safe to let the beast out of it's cage.

I believe it was right out of the dealership for me but no more than 7000 untill after 600 canyon miles were logged, then it was canyon runs with WOT to rev limit because the motor felt "free" enough to take it .
Now with 5000 miles logged my 14 is really strong , great with MPG, and smooth as can be even better than brand new!

That is my story and i'm stuck with it

let her go. I know damn well i pinned it as soon as i bought it. Even on my gixxer and it had .2 miles on it. I read on an article, the engine is ran for a specific amount of hrs with oil being constantly pumped into the engine. the oil pan is removed so extra shavings can be dismissed. then refilled, ran again and once it's given the thumbs up by the inspector, it is drained again and installed on the bike. I don't know how true this is but whether it is true or not, 300 miles will set anything in an engine so let her rip!

Steve,
was the oil on your inner or outer faring, I read your thread and didn't see where you described the oil as being easy to see on the outside or something you have to look carefully for.

This sounds like an issue everyone should be looking for.

to me, i would consider it ignorant to NOT follow their break it method. wheter it needs it or not, and im sorry guys, but the tech guys at kawi have been there many years and im sure know what their talking about. I ride the fuck out of my bike, but my inner brain just said follow the instructions, so i rode to 850 miles and took it to drag strip. but like said above
opinions are like assholes, everyones got one

Well, no break in for me either, maybe that's why I run such a high MPH in the 1/4.
