Thanks Fish! I suppose that is why my wife's Navigator only has HID in the headlights, not in the lower "fog" lights. Allows you to have some light, better than none right? I thought it was a simple cost saving measure . . .
yeppers... dem roads can sure be dark when those HID's fail.
Hard to beat the tungsten filament bulb. DOnt fix what aint broke.

it doesnt. You guys get free opinions from a 19 year veteran lighting tech. People frequently pay me large sums of $$$ for advice like that...
for free, I'll suggest that if you install HID on your bike that you carry a flashlight and a bungeecord to tie it to you front fairing in the event of total darkness.
you'll thank me one day!

quote: OKay.... so I've skimmed most of this thread and I'll throw in my $2 werth.... There is no reason whatsoever that replacing the bulbs on the 14 with the equivalent standard based HID unit would somehow "not work". The difference of a few millimeteres as FBS states in the focal point of the bulb would effect ALL vehicles said bulb was installed in, not just a 14, hence the differentiation between higher and lower quality HID kits. FUrthermore, the difference of a few millimeters of focal point spacing in the projector is insignificant in the reduction of light output from the unit. The error would have to be far greater than a millimeter or two to have a noticeable adverse effect.
As for my qualifications, I have all of you beat on this one. I'm a lighting technician with 19 years experience.
It's my job.
Now... furthermore... as a professional lighting technician I would NEVER install HID into a motorcycle. The tungsten filament is robust, tested and reliable. WHy on earth anyone would want to put an HID unit (true HID) with ballasts and additional cabling into a high vibration enviroment is totally beyond me.
The only thing I give you guys credit for in this topic is that at least the general level of knowledge of the membership has increased enough that I dont have to sit here and try to explain why a tungsten bulb painted blue isnt "HID"
-for that, I thank you.
Save you're money and take your wife out to dinner before your put HID in your motorcycle. If you install them as your prmiary light source I can assure you that you'll be sorry .... it will be a dark, cold lonely night in the middle of no where, pouring rain, and suddenly you;'ll be plunged into darkness.
Then you'll wish you'd have never bought the things/.

Maybe 1965 can bring you a horn and turn signals that work too...
Maybe Fish_Antlers want some HID for his 04 zx10 - 1965 are you going to work us out a group buy?
Group buy?....no group buys in Japan. Don't get the idea behind that, guess they figure people are going to buy the good shit and not complain about the price and they usually don't.
I have some spare horns and turn signals. In the mean time why don't he just yell to get someones attention and use hand signals to communicate his intentions.
I've asked for a catalog from various vendors selling stuff for the ZZR. One of the shops sent me a JDM ZZR magazine that I just receive today...pretty cool stuff.

quote: After using HID's in the wife's Navigator, I've come to like them. I don't really ride that much after dark since I have two small children that go to bed early. I like the HID more for the aesthetics and the fact I find the color and light more pleasing to my poor old arc burned eyes. Yes I'm old, 44 to be precise.
Thanks for the bulb offer, but I'm not going to disparage your wife or her ancestry further with that AWFUL word. I consider the asians to be superior in much of their culture, especially compared to where this culture is headed. So much for your "bigot" theory . . . I call it as I see it. I find it amusing that you can be so easily offended by simple words, you must have a VAST insecurity and paranoia complex. Reminds me of the "little man" complex as exhibited by so many people I've met that are vertically challenged. May I suggest some sort of therapy.
As for the burn color, they differ depending on the 4K, 6K, 8K output. Color can vary from super white, light blue, bright blue and yellow. Yellow work really well at night when conditons are a bit foul. Legal in Japan but not in the US...well, not legal in CA.
Thanks for refraining from future use of the that "awful" word. It really is a disparaging remark. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen.. for a sue happy type person. Would you really refer to a Japanese person who may work with you a "Jap"? even as a joke?..highly doubt it. You'd be looking for a new job and probably get a flying back kick to the throat. Enough said on the subject and thanks again. I'm not easily offended, just when my wife is used in a line of attack that has no bearing. If we were face to face I'd probably given you a pretty stiff back hand to include a well deserved nose bleed. I can take all the other jabs that most have thrown andl accept with no offense. But on the other hand, I wll retaliate with the same level of bafoonism. I require no therapy but thanks for the suggestion, I may pass it on to someone else who may require it.
I'll get a hold of my friend and see about the PIAA, Raybrig or Catz bulbs for the 14.
44?...that's not old, still plenty of years left in ya.
As for the Japanese culture, their new generation are slowly following the footsteps of our new generation. ie; wearing pants and shirts 10 times their normal size, disrespectful attitudes towards authority at all levels, single parent families, expect something for nothing and the list goes on.
You're no longer on my "bigot" list.
We can continue our differing opinions now....

A miner's helmet in your "roadside kit" is the ticket! Just upgrade the bulbs to high power LEDs.

Look at most of the aftermarket knick knacks they sell in the US, "made in Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Laos. Now that's junk.
ZX14-1965 I've been reading your stuff and it has finally started to offend me. Who in the hell are you to take offense at the use of the word Jap. Jap is a shortened version of Japanese. It is a noun. If someone were to add an offensive adjective to it such as worthless, stinking, fucking, etc., I might see your point. However, no one on this forum has.
I'm half Jap. My Mom is Japanese. Her maiden name was Kazue Watanabe. Unlike you, I was born there. The blood runs in my veins and I'm damn proud of it but I don't go off on everyone who says Jap or rice rocket or talks about my slanted eyes.
You seem to be carrying some type of cross over this issue. Are you ashamed of your wifes heritage and try to make up for it by going on the defensive everytime someone notices she looks a little different than the average caucasian female? If you have kids and act this way you are only going to make it tougher for them. Take that advice from an experienced half-breed. You need to lighten up before someone gets the idea that you're an asshole.

I'm running HID on my bike with no issues. It was plug n play and the wires are not intrusive to the OEM harness. All of the critical parts are secured and surrounded with these cool gel filled brackets. 2 year warranty on the ignitors and controllers. My friend in Japan is running this same get up going on two years now with no malfunctions.

I would hope that the President would have the presence to understand and react to the formality of the situation. Unlike you, you ignorant Half Wit. You get on an internet forum and react to these supposed slights to your wife. You toss your threats and insults while trying to build yourself up with boasting about your business skills. Yet you admit you weren't smart enough to keep your partners hands out of the cookie jar. I hope your wife isn't as embarrased by your behavior and lack of manners as I would be if I knew you.
As far as smacking me down, go for it. Based on what I've seen from your previous posts you lack the mentality to do a proper job of it. If the best you can do is hurl profanities from your keyboard this should be slightly, and only slightly, entertaining. What else have you read about Japan. Enlighten me some more.

I asked this on page 1 I think. Please elaborate on not indidually adjustable. I think I got an answer above.
When I picked up my bike from the dealer the headlights were aimed incorrectly. The top line of the low beams hit the ground 20' in front of the bike. Unfortunately I didn't know that till I was out in a deer infested back land visiting, and when I went to leave it was pitch black(no moon). The high beams were fine. The next day I took it back to the dealer @ closing and asked what the fuck. We looked it up in the manual. The service manager and I adjusted the low beams. They have independent adjusters for the right and left even. Just like when cars had the old 4 individual lamp set ups. You have my phone # or email me if you need help from there. Please let me know if this helps or not.
