brocks smeg install
I have searched the forums and found a couple different install instructions on the Brocks smeg. But have one question. What are the torque specs for the header bolts?
thanks in advance

Hand tight and don't bend the flanges... I did mine with a 1/4 inch drive set and rechecked the bolts after a few rides ...

thanks.................now if UPS would just hurry up. Was hoping for today so I could throw everything on over the weekend.
They have it scheduled for Monday. Looks like I am not going to work on Monday hehe.
Tis alright, the summer out here in AZ won't stop for some reason this year, so riding season is starting a few weeks late.

Installation Time/difficulty?
How long would it take to instal a pipe and power commander(brock's meg). And rate the difficulty, if you have done it before.
thanks!!
I'm contemplating this mod soon.

will let you know bigdtd. I personally have never touched a bike before other than oil changes etc.
Tons of wrenching with cars though. So figuring I will be fine.

Guys I used Raptor 14's instructions, which I found to be awesome. I don't wrench either, but these directions he provided made it rather simple to get the header and mid-pipes on. The photo's actually made it possible for someone like me to do it all.
I'd have not known there's room to do the install without loosening/removing the radiator, which spring to put on the flange first and such tips. Plus the directions made the fairing remove simple, PC install simple, etc.

I would have never got the fairings off without that instructional. THANKS RAPTOR!!! I would of been too scared to pull on the plastic to get them out of the stoppers. And those rivets would of completly baffeled me. The first one was obvious on how to get it out. But the two up front would have caused me some major issues.
I kind of wish they would of used more of those rivets like the ones up front (button in the middle). They look really clean when they are in.
Only thing I would add to this is. You can do this with the radiator in. At first I was completly baffeled on how to get the internal header bolts off around the fan area. It is super cramped. Some one up above in this thread said they used 1/4 drive for the whole job on those. Once I switched over to 1/4 drive it was a breeze. Don't need a universal or extension.
Just pulled it apart today, exhaust does not come in until tomorrow. Have a feeling getting the fairings back together is going to be fun.
One final note on this for anyone else. You might want to check your exhaust header bolts if your stock. I had 1 that was barely even on. And 1 that was finger tight at best, might of even been down the threads a few turns. It was a blind one for me so couldn't see it, but it was way loose.
After seeing that and the oil leak problem in the other thread, starting to wonder if they make stuff there like we do here now. Friday/Monday ones suck, hehe.

I only removed the belly fairings. I saw no need to remove the side fairings.....Those push pins are a pain , i keep a box of extras just in case...By the way they are the same pins used on Busas.... Go figure...

also, I couldn't find any permatex ultra copper. But did find another brand name copper silicone. It has a 700f degree max. Is that the same for the permatex?

I found a lot of bolts loose on mine too when I installed the Brock's stuff, to include a few on the exhaust but also many others. Serious bolts. I'm wondering if the reason my bike is in the shop now for the oil leak is because of the same problem and I just didn't catch all the loose crap. Mine was already recalled and repaired for the vehicle-down sensor bolt being loose. I like my bike, I just wish KHI would've finished putting it together for me.

Well got it in tonight. Love the sound, have not installed PC3 yet because I have to pull the flies also since the map that Brock loaded is for the exhaust and the flies out. So not getting the full benefit of it yet.
I bought it from Brocks for two reasons. Performance. And the other is getting tested tomorrow when I call. Brocks outstanding previous customer service. The muffler was dented from shipment. I imagine UPS problem.
Also for anyone doing this, dry fit it first. I saw no one else have the issues I did, but the midpipe and the pipe behind it did not fit at first. One of the headers end was oval shape and I had to take a c-clamp to it and mess with squeezing it a few times to get it back to in round. And the pipe that goes from the mid pipe to the muffler was also oval in shape at the end of it.
Providing your pipes are round at the end, the other problem you will run into is the collector fitting around part of the bike at the rear of the collector. It will not go on to the headers if you tighten down the flange bolts. It is in the instructions that he sends as well as Raptors on here not to tighten those until after the collector is on. But I missed the point and learned my lesson hehe.

Guys,
Since it is FINALLY starting to slow down a bit around here....
We are adding new products to our store and instructions as we finish them.
Raptor 14's (aka George Allen) ZX-14 Installation Instructions impressed us so much that we decided to SLIGHTLY alter them and add them to our Brock's Performance Instructions Page (with his permission, of course! And THANK YOU!)
They are in high resolution at the moment so be sure you have dsl or cable- we should have the low res dial up version up soon.
This will help less experienced installers get the job done correctly and without the added expanse of having someone else do it for them.
Brock's Performance Instructions Page
Good luck and happy reading!

Talked to Brocks this morning. Guess they had a palet of mufflers that fell over. They checked all of them but just my luck I got a dented one, hehe. They are sending me out a new one, and gave me a discount off my next order.
Glad I read up on exhaust systems and the company before I bought. This forum is invaluable.
Great exhaust system, great sound, great performance and great company backing it up.
