Mags are full of shit; they don't tell the truth. I currently own the 14 and the 10...(see my sig) 10 makes power, yes...and it rips hard, especially in that neverending 1st gear...times aren't hugely different in the street between the 2 but each has their purpose for me. Every time I get on my 10, I say..."fuck, I can't believe I haven't ridden this thing in a week"...I just love that bike. When I get on my 14, I say"The sheer power of this thing is sick". The 24 LBS RWTQ difference is huge, since it happens so far down low in the range, hence the hard gut wrenching launches, that the 10 just doesn't have.
The 10 is very precise and more importantly, wild, in terms of sheer acceleration from midrange up...it will easily outhandle the 14 all day long and give you a greater security level over the 14 when pushed to extremes...14 is great for long distances...makes for more practical rides...each has their own pros and cons.
No way can any piped 10 outpace a similarily equipped 14 on the strip though...put the 14 on a weight loss program and you will see a good 7-10ths or more between the two...and that's HUGE.

I have that Sportrider Mag.........August-06
On page 36 they did some data-logging and one of the charts is a ZX10/ZX14 comparo of driving force. And I quote:
"Yes, the ZX-10R is one seriously quick literbike, but an example of how strong the ZX-14 is can be seen on this thrust graph. Note that the ZX-14 is accelerating harder af the top of second gear than the ZX-10R is in FIRST gear, and the advantage continues through the rest of the gearbox."
If that doesn't put things in perspective........I don't know what does. The 10R is an accelerating ANIMAL...........but the 14 is the KING of the animal world fo sho!!!!!!

the 10r is hands down the best one. And super comfortable. I am not sure how anyone rides an R1. The gas tank pokes me right in the solar plexes while laying down on it. Seems very uncomfortable.
I love my 14 and cannot wait to get my exhaust, PCIII and flies out this weekend.

I didn't buy the ten because of the comfort (lack of). The tank hit me wrong all together. Very glad now. I love the 14.

Not to hijack the thread...But you mention gas tank. I did some dyno testing for one of the magazines yesterday and one of the bikes was an '07 MV Agusta Brutale. That gas tank shape/seat area absolutely fit better than any bike in recent memory.
Now back to your regular program.....

quote: Your talking a race bike and a touring bike. The 10 is almost at it's limit on performance the 14 isn't close. Also the 10 will never make the torque the 14 will with similar mods. Touring bike /race bike take your pick there both fast...
Uhh, no...sorry FB, but performance isn't limited on the 10R...it will outperform the 14 in almost every way you can think of as far as performace goes, with the only exception being on the dragstrip. There's no comparison in the way the 10R handles as opposed to the 14. I know we all love our 14's but be realistic about this. I've spent a lot of time on the track (not drag) and there's no fucking way anyone with experience and in their right mind, would attempt to push a 14 through a circuit as they would a 600 or 1000. It's not designed for that and you will certainly get hurt in the process of attempting it. For those of you who have scraped the gound with your plastics...that certainly means something in the way the bike corners, but don't go telling us that it literally handles like a litre bike, because it doesn't and if you try to make it do that, you'll get very hurt in the process. The 14 is one very fast and torquey machine yes -- and it handles very well for it's bulk, size and weight, but in race style performance it's certainly no match for a 10, or any liter bike for that matter.
The only way a 10 will be at or near it's limit against a 14, is in on the drag strip at or near the end of the race. Last time I checked, races on the circuit weren't won on the straights...
I've scraped plastics on the Busa in the turns too (sweepers)...but where it really counts in the very tight twisties where agility is the key...Busa's & 14's leave much to be desired when it comes to braking and fast response cornering.
Goldwings scrape plastics too...does that mean they hande like a litre bike?

Litre bikes, Goldwings, ZX14's, blah blah blah they may all corner well and scrape some plastic....ya'll don't know NUTHIN', the HARLEY beats them all, even with a side car attached!

but hey, this guy may not agree:

Sorry FBA I just have a dragracers frame of mind, I was talking about motor wise. I just meant the 10 is built to be a track bike with little stuff done to it to make it street legal...the 14 was meant for the street but with little mods can be one of the baddest bikes out there, 2 different bikes 2 different reasons to get up in the morning....

Flatoutbu, you mentioned someone should build a drag type bike. Do you remember when Kawi produced the ZL900 Eliminator back in 1985? They took the largest Ninja engine at that time and stuffed it nicely into a low riding drag bike frame and referred to it as a Ninja in Drag! At that time it was the quickest bike from 0-50 mph on the planet... 2.16 seconds. One of Kawi's adds in the mag read... "This bike will slap you back in the seat faster than your first grade teacher ever did". Do a search online for the ZL900. Now if Kawi would re-make that bike with a little touch of modern technology and the latest Ninja engine I for sure would put my deposit down today! A little longer wheelbase, lower gear and 1352cc with a 240 rear tire. Hmmm, quite possibly sounds like a recipe for the first stock street bike to break into the 8 second zone with a few minor mods. A real Power Cruiser!

They had to quote 0-50 times on the Eliminator 'cause it had to shift to second to get to 60. The V-Max would 0-60 in 2.3 sec.

2.3? That seems a bit optimistic? That's even faster than a Busa or ZX14...or did ya mean 0-60 KM?

I love my Vmax..........realistic 1/4 times are about 11.20 - 11.50
The bike used for the mags back then was "special"............I have spoken to the guy that did the tests and set records on it.......0-60 is about 3.0 if you can get it to stick..........

I too own a Vmax... A 2005 anniversary edition and love it. 0-60 in 3.0 is the best time for Mr.Max with 1/4 mile times of 10.64 on a stock street tire and 10.44 with a 6" drag slick and wheelie bar. That's all stock equipment and no mods with nothing special... This was done with Dale Walker at the controls. A prototype Vmax which was "special" was tested at the Baylands Raceway in Fremont, California in 1985 and recorded the fastest 1/4 mile time ever run on a production bike with a time of 10.32 by Jay Gleason. So yes, the Vmax will bust a ZL900 Eliminator but look, the Kawi is giving up 290cc to the Vmax's 1198cc. So my whole point of dropping in the "New" Ninja 1352cc engine into a ZL900 (ZL1400) "type" Drag Style bike was to breathe new life into the old, but original muscle bike design of the 80's. Again, I love my Vmax but I seriously doubt that I could keep up with a new Ninja in Drag!
