That was because he was being a 'tard...needed to ruffle his young feathers. Truth is, it can be cool when done right...I just prefer a different and more subtle look is all...but I respect other's opinions and their right to express themselves through their rides.

btw...look at line 4 of my sig..."modded to hell"...

10-4. Better for me to just look at posts and not get involved. As I get older not getting involved is always the best choice.

I am thinking about polish or black, either paint or powdercoat...not chrome though, don't want that look and don't want to weaken the metal to that extent either

FBA -

I went with a medium gloss black powdercoat on the rims and swingarm of my previously persimmon red - soon to be candy green A1 and I can tell you the results are fabulous.

The bike had 13K well maintained miles on it when I put her down a little over a year ago and since I really wanted the candy green when I bought her as a 3 mile leftover in June/2001 I just decided to go through everything and rebuild the bike from scratch.

I was hoping to have her done early this summer but other things (work, house, new R1) prevented that so I made it a long term project. Right now I am waiting on my back-ordered ABM rotors because those and paint are all that are left.

I replaced all the bearings on the bike as part of the process and that was not cheap.

Depending on your mileage you might want to spend a little coin and go with the powdercoat and bearing replacement if you really love the bike. The powdercoat process is some tough stuff and looks excellent.

I cannot wait to get my 12 finished because I have literally spared no expense in the buildup. I've kept it very stock looking but the trained zx-12r eye will find all sorts of goodies.

Let me know if you need any advice on the powdercoating. I've had some stuff done wrong and stuff done right. Gunner has quite a bit of experience with the subject too,

Get involved +2.

We all learn from each other and if somebody get's pissed they'll get over it.

Like blitz said..
powder coat would be my preferance... tough as nails too...
polishing then powder coating would leave a very smooth polished colored finnish rather than the porous POS PITA to clean stock finnish.

dubious, usually when the powdercoat they sandblast the wheels, wouldnt that take away the rough finish? ive never powdercoated a rough finished wheel, but i would assume its all in the finish.

Sandblast = VERY BAD situation !!!!!If you're going to remove the finish it needs to have media blasting... plastic pellets.....

Sand will destroy your wheels so be careful what you ask for..

As I posted yesterday if you Powdercoat the OEM coating it don't have to be removed!! It's powder from Kawak and you can powder right over it. I've had it done myself and it turns out perfect.

Depending on the blast media you will get a different finish. I like glass beads or if I want to preserve the metal, walnut shells.

did it smooth the finnish though.
I know the powder sets up like gel when they heat it in the oven, but does it " flow enough to fill the poroue stock finnish on the inner rim and spokes?
Thats the bitch with cleaning stock wheels, if they were smoother, a good pressure washer would suffice every other wash.

just remember to keep that pressure washer away from your bearings and seals

How smooth they turn out GREATLY depends on who does the work.. Hang time or BAKING time& temp directly effect this outcome. A good powder guy will know all this and get it right. An industrial powder coater will most probably fuck up your shit and whatever you do stay away from powder coating places that have a conveyor system. Yea it looks impressive but it sucks for anything other than John Deer parts. I can get anything I want done for free where my girlfriend works, but they have a conveyor system and you can't pluck the stuff out at the perfect moment like you can from a smaller over. So I'll gladly pay to get it done right. Just some free advice from a guy that's had a ton of stuff coated. Also make sure you point out all the places NOT to get powder in and plug all holes with spare screws yourself. Don't leave anything to chance. That stuff is a bitch to get out of small places and bearing bores. Keep it off the rotor mounting surface as well.

First, I want to say that I don't know shit about the powder coating process, but I read or saw on tv that if you put a second coat of powder on a still hot wheel and refire it. It will come out looking smooth as glass. If anybody knows for sure I would like to know.

Next, I cant even reach the hub on my front wheel. How the hell do you polish something you cant reach. I have Ulta Platnum(sp?) wheels on my truck. I can reach them and polish them often, however I have found a couple small pits in the chrome. Ultra says it's from brake dust. I take these wheels off in the winter and store them in a climate controlled room. I can see doing the lip of the rim polished. Someone on here did that and it looks sharp.

Also, chrome has a place. Not on a bike designed for speed. Most people are spending their money to cut weight not add it. Nobody is gonna know if you are on a roaring toys bike or a stock bike when you go bye.. in triple digits. If you don't ride it, and want trophies @ bike nite then why do you want the fastest production vehicle (status)? If so, your to immature to have one. The good news is that you won't splat your immature, can't ride ass into some cager that doesn't know your there if it's parked in a lot. No worries if it doesn't run.

FBA named this topic "Stripping the wheels on a 14", not Chroming the wheels on a 14.

countersteer, I think your bike is "shave my dogs ass and make it walk backwards" ugly. I see that color on everything from lumina's to rc cars. Seemed cool when a engineer from Dupont showed it to me pre-release. Now it's just way overdone. You can buy it in a spray can at Kmart. Maybe thats were you got it. I don't know. If you like it that's all that matters. A little goes along way. It's amazing. I don't care if you like my truck or my bike. I do and that's what I think matters.

You need to grow some skin and learn how to read. The guys on here are not anti chrome. They and I appreciate what this bike was designed for, and thats not sitting in a parking lot looking at it. It was nice of you to post the pics of your bike. That isn't what FBA is looking for. Why are you hurt by that?

Why would you have your busa as your avatar on this forum instead of your 14????

Jim...you really need to step back and rethink who you're talking too. We're a close knit group here and attitudes like yours don't fare well here...not if you want help. You don't just walk in to our house and start shit like you've done...this attitude of yours will alienate you around here. You've managed to diss everyone you've conversed with so far...can't wait to see what happens next...

By the way...it's "you're" not "your"...
