Stripping the wheels on a 14

I want to strip the paint off the wheels on my 14...then polish them. What's the fastest easiest way to strip and polish?

I used to use DuPont 5662S which is an "Aircraft Stripper" with great success. I don't know what the new name or number is but it should be avaliable at a local automobile refinishing supply store (auto paint store).

Go to Wal-mart and get a can of Bix stripper.
Mine came with a small spray bottle to pour
it into. Just spray it on, and let it sit a couple minutes.
Used it on several motorcycle wheels.
Works really well. Make sure you get some
rubber gloves. It stings pretty bad when you get
it on your skin.

Just a note here. Keeping the wheels polished is a pita.
I'll have my next set chromed.

I'm looking forward to seeing the pics, and no matter what you do the outcome can't be as bad as the brown ~

Brown is THE new BAD-ASS color, why else would MicroShaft have chosen it as one of the colors for the upcoming Zune "iPod Killer"?

LoL!

Also regarding the puke brown, I'm going to hold-off on swapping the tires to the front PP and "1st" rear until I see the outcome of this...thanks!

I might just have the old tires taken off and straight to the body shop with my wheels. Even the brighter gold trim like the Aprilia sports (and smokie and the bandit transylvania trim package) I think may look better than the puke brown, but it may be too much. I was looking at my friend's Hayabusa and the black wheels are soooo right on it.

I'm just hesitant to invest a lot in this bike in hopes Suzuki (or one of 'em) offers up something nice for '08.

the heat process from chroming makes metal brittle...
corrrect me if I'm wrong.

Steve... with all your money buy some dymags or somethin

If the GSXR wheels are truly 13 lbs lighter than the 14's, lighter wheels will make about as much performance difference as the exhaust, and it will handle MUCH better!

The metals and/or chemicals in chroming, I believe, make the aluminum brittle.

Any reduction in unsprung weight would make the suspension much more responsive and the bike handle better.

99 Road King -- modded to hell and pushing 110 RWHP, 118 RWTQ.................I hope you don't mean that one...........$20K=110RWHP?

AIrcraft paint stripper works great - used it on some other parts (as well as aircraft) and you just need to be sure you don't get any on you ...even the fumes hurt.

Have you ever done one? If not, then you might want to research what it cost in 02 to get 110 from stock 54 RWHP, without s/c or t/c.

what a waste of money! are you fucking retarded FBA? you think polishing isnt "blinging"? more like youre being a cheap fuck- id never consider polish (too much upkeep). yeah my zx-12 wheels are so brittle that theyre about to disintegrate
no chrome? then get to strippin' then.fact of the matter is, you want to polish because you dont want to spend the money on the chrome, or are too lazy to pull everything and send it off (and have to wait like two months to get it back).
chrome doesnt belong on streetbikes? you all seemed to like the ZX-14 "8Ball" Galespeed wheels... im sure you all love rc components as well... DYMAGS, however, are a different story! *drool*
i guess i should take pics of my zx-12 and zx-14 side by side so you can see what chrome can do... i chromed my bike because i just couldnt stand the ugly brownish gold magnesium look...

edit:
i want to make it clear that i am going in a completely different direction with my zx-14 (lime green, no chrome)

i am now going to take the opportunity to hijack this bullshit "HOW DO I POLISH?!?!?!" thread...
exhibit A: a properly done 2003 ZX-12R

exhibit B: sooo sexy

exhibit C: chrome vs. stock doo-doo brown

exhibit D: even "blinged" my brembo calipers and brembo adapter

exhibit E: one last shot

exhibit F: hound

STOCK ZX-14 VS CUSTOM ZX-12

i scrape fairing too, but im also a heavyweight

bling-a-bike<--- why do people (other than rap stars and crack dealers) do such!?

does it look like im a fucking drug dealer/rapper? no, but it does look like i know how to customize a bike, unlike most of the other hack jobs i see on here.
took the pics in the shade as not to blind myself (or you) with chrome... i chose to keep the frame black because im not that big of a chrome fan- i only chromed the brown shit.
sorry for hijacking, but there are plenty of HOW-TO threads on polishing for noobs. yeah, the chrome does look better than that god awful brown. so FBA, how exactly is polishing beneficial compared to chroming? i guess since youre still unemployed it would be hard to pay for chroming...
im still waiting for stalwart to chrome out one of his tanks

funny how the ONLY people who claim to dislike my bike are grizzley old men on the internet. i guess when i grow old and have no self esteem i would buy a cruiser... sorry for turning this thread into smack-material, but...

You keep on deluding yourself you fat punk. My last purchase was a 14 NOT a cruiser but I do have one, cruiser that is, with PLENTY of chrome. Your lack of taste on the 12 still shows what a little punk you are.

Nice dog though . . .

you, sir, are about as old and decrepid as the tanks you collect- and it certainly does show your age... however, i do respect your collection, and youre probably one of the only bland members that i somewhat respect...
i wouldnt be caught dead on a cruiser- a CUSTOM CHOPPER, on the other hand, is a different story... little punk? im a full grown man. dont be jealous that i am what you used to be. maybe i should keep to the smackhouse- every day i read some noob threads about nonsense... very rarely are there informative or interesting posts.
anyway, FBA, there are plenty of threads detailing how to polish wheels. good luck.

edit:
wait a minute, since when is a 502 boss considered a cruiser?

I suppose I'm kinda old but my collection shows nothing about my age, I just got bored with collecting cars. I'm older than some of my toys and MUCH younger than others. OK, my small tank is 32 years old this year . . .

What would you call a Boss? Ain't a touring bike, nor a canyon carver, the best description I can see is power-cruiser.
