Joe,

I looking at my options for next year. Yes I'm serious. I went to Test Pilot school. Can't afford a P-51 or Bear Cat to race at Reno. Driving the 14 hard rejuvenates me.

Bikeland and these great guys here have taught me everything I know about bikes and going fast, in three short months. I like to think of it as going back to school to geting a degree in bikes. If you don't learn something new everyday you grow old and die.

The closest drag strip to learn about nitro is over 3 hours away. If it were closer I would go over there and educate myself. The only thing Santa Cruz has is surfboards and hippies. Thank goodness I have the guys here on this forum.

Don't you want to improve your speeds each year?

If you know me Nuke I dont argue with guys on the net..it's point less. Just trying to tell him what I know/told. I go a quarter at a time i'll let him figure out anything past that...If you want a arguement go talk to FBA or countersteer or something...

Well since you are wrong its no argument read their own website if you think i am wrong since that is where i got the info.

I go a 1/4 at a time myself. Shorten your bike to 62" and we'll line up - and i will use true 89 octane pump gas...

Flyboy,
When I was at Muzzys we built aninjected Nitro ZX-11 for the EZ Hook. I tuned this bike and could answer your nitro questions.
Nitro is REAL COOL to play with, but without replaceable cylinders- forget it. It is inevitable that you will ruin some pistons and cylinders finding the right combination (if you want to make any real power, that is) I have somne cool photos of this set up but I'd have to scan 'em..... if you want to see it.

flyboy..........you will be farther ahead to run
nitrous in fuel class........and still have a bike.........

going methanol and or nitro will basically ruin it
as a bike........unless you dont want to do anything else
with it except race..........

nitrous isnt easy on the salt either...........depending on how
fast you want to go............

200-210.......no problem

225 plus.....on nitrous...abit of pain.........

Joe,

I realize the next decision for my bike would be what to do to it and by doing it, would I still have a bike I could ride around town. I take it that 's what you're trying to say.

Yes it would be great to put a turbo on it and go out and get some more records but I don't think you can drive a 500 hp bike around town. Can you? Would it be hard to start out at a traffic light? I don't know.
And we're looking at probably two or three events a year--

On the other hand one could put nitro on the bike and still have a bike to ride around town. Replacing pistons after Bonneville is an expense I'm willing to put up with. You wouldn't have the ultimate record but maybe it might be more advantageous to take steps at Bonneville and enjoy the bike. What do you think?

flyboy...........putting in nitro isnt that easy........you would need
to revamp the entire fuel system.....pump...injectors...lines...etc....

turbo is cheapest in the long run...........and you could still have a nice street bike...

nitrous cheapest in the short run......and you might still have a street bike......

or creep up on it in steps like you indicated.......by tried and true normally aspirated
methods.........cams......pistons.......headwork........etc.....

Joe,
Just to be clear
A nitrous oxide system allows you to use it at will, is relatively inexpensive , easy to install and if used in moderation leaves a workable street bike.
Nitro methane burns engines and is only workable for extreme purpose built (extraordinarily expensive) machines....

Just to clear the air, I too, coming from the Maxton world thought it was F for Fuel class, but as Scott Guthrie pointed out it was AF (altered Fuel). That is the class I ran in for my record run of 201.9 mph average (MPS/AF 1350).

Its just the way AMA does it.
