landracing- What part of "kicked butt" do you and your cronies not understand? Don't you read your own website? Can you figure out which two bikes are the 14's? And they're both stock, unopened engines! I'm sorry I missed last night because I have a family and life to live.

The only bike to top the 14's, if I read it correctly, was a 1350 P/P bike from the veteran racing team of Forstall & Deluca who ran a 205.9 mph. A stock engine? I really doubt it.

Were there no other 1650's? Usually there are a few Busa's running in 1650......
Btw, for full disclosure, I've never beeen to a Bub meet so I really don't know who shows up there.

The Faulkner/Livingston racing team arrived with their fancy trucks, logoed golf shirts, state of the art equipment and a beautiful 14. The first thing Livingston did was to come over, check out my bike and start asking a lot of questions because my runs were going so well. A nice guy, he got awful nosey, especially on gearing and how I set up the bike. He even stooped down to verify my gearing which I found unusual. I told him a lot of things but not everything. I knew they were Pros. I've been to their website and knew they know every trick in the book.

But when the dust settles and records are announced you'll see how my best average beat them by 1 mph. This was a great triumph in my book. One of many that I will share in this forum once records are announced.

Thanks for the info...I certainly wasn't expecting to hear Faulkner/Livingston showed up with a ZX14 either, especially after what the pro speed-god joeA from landracing said

Probably a stupid question... but I'll ask anyway.
Does it have to run 1650 because it is 1352cc?
Plus what made the huge differences in speeds from each class,
just better passes, or were there changes made to the bike?

I ask because I'm going to try my hand at the Texas mile in Oct.
and don't want to embarass you guys, need all the speed secrets

Unfortunately the 14 is at the bottom of the 1650 cc class AMA and at the bottom of the FIM 2,000 cc class. But that is really good news because--

1) the 1350cc class has outrageously fast records to break because of the Busa being around for nine years which means-- the 1650 class is wide open! There are still a lot of classes that are "open" meaning they have never had a record.

2) We have the ability to do a lot to our engines to improve power but still keep within our class!

That is why I want to encourage all you guys to make it out to the International Speed Trials by Bub next year to set a World or AMA record.

Speedweek is also a great event but I understand cars take top billing and motorcycles are second class. Maybe someone on this site can confirm or deny that as I have never been there.

speedweek is a must experience..........you will love it....

cars and bikes are treated equally..........

its a week long of hotrodding heaven...........

put it this way........there are car/bike guys that have gone
consistently since 1949....ie they went in 1949 and or in
early 50's and have come back every year possible...........

scta/usfra/fim/ama all have 1650 class.........

occassionally there is FIM sanctioning at scta events..........

for many yrs Manning has pursued the outright FIM record..............and financed
attempts privately on the salt..........paid for the BLM permit to use salt....payed all
(read high) FIM fees........course prep etc on his own for himself............

lately he obtained corporated backing and entries to aid in picking up fees........

now that the record is his.........it will be interesting to see how the BUB meet
plays out.......and FIM attendance........i hope it continues........

another option I would like to see is deboring/destroking a zx14 to meet the 1350 class
limit and get rid of some of those Suz records...............

Joe! Joe! stop with the ideas.....

Speedweek is more of an EVENT. Even as a hard core bike guy, watching and hearing a four wheeler go by at 450 mph will get you revved up. I think there are more bike entrants as well (Joe?).

Doug-

The F (Fuel class) was an unusual situation- I only knew one person who races at Bonneville and he doesn't use fuel so I had no one to turn to. I knew I wanted to see how fast the 14 went with all the stops out.

After reading Brock's commentaries at the strip I asked him about Mr9. Brock is somewhat unfamiliar with Bonneville but suggested I give it a try. When I arrived at Bonneville no one else had Mr9 and most didn't even know what type of fuel it was. Most of the Fuel guys had cans of C-16 and I understand they mix them with regular gas with a certain formula. I wish one of you guys would tell me what it is. I know the 14 has a low compression (10 to 1, I believe) and would like to know the answer.

After I ran the MPS/AF class I was told by knowledgeable people that I probably lost mph by using straight Mr9 because of the bike's low compression.

When running in the M/F class I mixed C-16 with Mr9 and pump gas. The top prize for the fastest "open" bike was $5,000. I missed it by 24 mph. I think Noonan won it using his bike he sold on e-bay? You might know. I'm writing a story about my "open" experience which was probably the most terrifying time in my life-- and will post it shortly.

Joe - As I lay in bed last night, that idea occurred to me as well. A 1mm destroke would be plenty. Something to raise the rev limiter would be nice, but not absolutely necessary.

Type: Four-stroke, DOHC, inline four
Displacement: 1352cc
Bore and Stroke: 84.0 x 61.0mm
Fuel System: Fuel injection with Mikuni 44mm throttle bodies(4)

Flyboy,

Im pretty sure but there isnt a class called MPS/AF.. There is however a MPS/F class. Check me on that...

Noonan did not take the $5K open bike, and he did not sell his bike on ebay.. He did however buy a bike on ebay around the same time... And he will be at Maxton this weekend with it.

Noonan showed up, failed to complete the mile, returned to start, blew a clutch, borrowed one from Ack Attack, then went again and hurt a valve spring.. went home same day....

Knecum got fastest siton at 236 mph and fastest open bike at 196 mph and took home $10K for it...

really what I cant wait for is a turbo 14 to show up.. Now that would be fun.. 1mm under would be nice too and go after the 1350 Suzuki Records... Start nailing those out of the book and have some fun and stir the pot up...
