Bonneville Results- Pending!

I know a number of you were following my rookie road to Bonneville. Well my crew chief and I got back last Thursday morning excited but very tired. As of today (9/15) we have still not heard any of the results but I wanted you all to know that the 14 kicked butt at Bonneville. I didn't quite hit the speed I wanted but we may have a World Record and three AMA records. I'll post the story when I hear.

Standing with me is my friend and crew chief Richard Oliveira who owns Cycle Imports. He now knows more about the 14 and it's engine then probably most the mechanics in the country. If you're thinking about improvements on your engine, he's the man to see. He'll be doing mine this winter so we can improve on our records of this year.

Looks like way to much trouble to go fast.
But I'll bet you had a great time anyway.

Look at all the salt everywhere,
might as well leave it apart you have alot of
cleaning to do before it eats the bike alive.

Hope everthing worked out well.
The bike looks good William.

I never realized how much speed is lost to tire spin at bonny!
our limey friend bobc says he's ran 208 I believe it was, and maxton guys are hitting 196 from what I hear...

So how close to 200 did you get?
Spanked your friends BMW I'm sure!

Joea--

From your statements I take it that you are not familar with the classes of Land Speed Racing. You can't compare bike in different class catagories. It's like comparing apples to oranges. The APS class is "special construction" and has nothing to do with a production bike either with the fairing or it's engine. It's the most modified class sit-on bike one can enter.

This is an example of a APS class bike.

Secondly, here's a little secret for you that a lot of newbies don't know. A "Production" class bike does not necessarily mean a stock engine. How many ways do you know how to increase the horsepower of your engine without changing the size of your piston or stroke? While in impound after a record run, those are the only two items measured.

For four days straight the density altitude was from 5,300 to 6,000 feet in the afternoon. Most of the stock engine Busas were running from 160-172 mph. My stock engine, stock exhaust, 14 averaged 189 mph. That is what I mean by "kicking butt". To me, that's comparing apples to apples.

If your seriously interested in learning more about the classes go to:
http://www.speedtrialsbybub.com/2006_event/AMA-BonSR%27s-2006(v3-1).pdf
or e-mail me.

........yeah you guys are the bomb.........

I dont know as much as you guys about lsr......

I say again............I will let the RESULTS speak for themselves..............

as noted...........on same event same conditions..........same day.........

1350 Production class Suz went 205+mph..........the 14 in 1650 class
production went 195 mph...................you entered a class that allows
much larger engine capacity and you were 10 mph slower than the 1350 class
bike..............BOTH IN PRODUCTION................

the current scta 1350 production record is 201 mph...........

What am I missing about the comparison....................except that the 14 was considerably slower with larger displacement..............

then you entered in 1650 Modified Partially streamlined FUEL class and went 192 mph
the scta 1000 Modified Partially streamlined Fuel class record is over 223 mph............

BOTH mps-f class.................how are these two comparisons of SAME class bikes
not justified.........??

...........Kicked butt..........????

my ten yr old son is here and has his opinion as well...........its very close to mine
I am trying to educate him about lsr.......classes...........

the "world record" you broke............was 0.00 mph..........it was an open record...........
you did kick butt on that one ...........

not sure whos fault it is that you didnt beef up your 1650 cc class engine to run better than
the 1350 cc class bike..........

ps MOST of the MPS records are faster than the APS class records......and MOST of
the 1350 cc class records are faster than the 1650 cc class records................

lets compare your class and runs to the PUSHROD class ie HARLEY............same event
1987 NRHS V-Twin Performance MPS-Pushrod Fuel class....217.945 mph 217.832 mph

this is comparing MPS-F to MPS-F both 1650 cc class

that was a BUELL with FACTORY fairing.................is that a more applicable comparison.....who should have the advantage....................same class that the 1970 bike
ran..........cept the pushrod class cant have over head cams.....................

you guys ran on BEST salt in over a DECADE with very good density altitude numbers.....

help me out here guys what am I missing...........

LMAO...

JoeA doesn't know anything about LSR... Just some hillbilly is the middle of anywhere.

Although I will comment on the ZX14R at BUB.

Although it was a marvelous achievement to get there and race.. The numbers are sub par for apples to apples in the LSR classes.

Not saying much when the records are from the 1970's in the AMA classes. And also almost ALL of the FIM classes are open to run on. Two speeds in opposite directions sets a record.

IN relation to the bike you showed above the black one... IF you read the results that bike ran in the MPS-BF class.. NOT APS CLASS... At speedweek it is a APS bike just because of wheelbase numbers, at BUB's for their rules its a MPS bike... That bike set a record close to 190 mph... That bike also had a data speed of 217 mph at the entrance into the mile before the oil fire and smoke started rolling out of the bodywork and had to turn out.... Did I mention that bike was 599cc.... And there is nothing special contruction on the frame of the bike, it is stock frame... Just the body work.. Like a 1992 Kawasaki ZX6....

If you compare the history of the 1350cc and 1650cc classes,, Until the ZX14R can surpass the 1350 cc Production record it is just a mildly entertaining speed...

But congrats on your records... Keep at it and get them higher next year... OR come back for World Finals in 20 some days.... IF there still is a track then...

yes it seems there is a huge proliferation of classes.........

I see this as good and bad............

it allows ANYONE to pursue dreams of speed on venues such as
Bonneville.............

and that is a good thing...............

anyone cant run nascar.....cart....F1................

but trying to read between the lines of class's...............you can keep it simple and
compare PRODUCTION TO PRODUCTION..........and MPH to MPH...................

how many have a timing ticket they are proud of that shows what speed you averaged
for over a mile..............

LSR seems to be one of the last great bastions of amatuer racing........without
corporate corruption.............

so we should give up on it........dont give up on pursuing speed...........thats what LSR
seems to be about..........on a venue like salt flats that seems conducive to really going after
it.......

is my post count high enough now to matter ...sft...?

I have only been a faithful registered member here since 2001..............

the 14 LSR dude has been a member for 3 months........I dont hold that against him...

he is at least "doing it".........instead of talking about it.........or saying its too confusing....

speed is speed.............speed is good....

What part of "stock engine" do you people have trouble with? Running in Production Class doesn't necessarily mean you have a stock engine. Most have thousands $$$$ put into their "production class" engines. The engine I used is off the showroom floor that an not been modified in any way. The bike is only 3 months old.

Most people running in the Fuel class are allowed to use Nitro. I did not.

Yes there are a lot of open records still available in the AMA and FIM classes and I encourage all SCTA members to partake.

Next year will be a better comparison to the 1350 class. But as of right now the 14 is the fastest production bike off the showroom floor in the World. Can you people live with that?

i can live with anything except 1650 production bike or stock ...its not sold that way and any mod make it a non production or stock bike .. even if the mods a simple air filter or windscreen ... that makes it mod in my book ...i'm not slamming the 14 or you .. just the way rules are made or bent

dude...............how many other results do I need to post here.............

your own Doug Meyer.............ran 196 mph on a stock engined zx12........on
short venue.........Maxton............

many stock engined zx12's and Busa's.......have run over the 195 you posted.......with
the 14..................that speed is NOT the fastest for stock bikes.................

NICE picture of you on the salt.....................

its a REALLY nice picture of a BROCK aftermarket pipe on your production bike
that......has......"""""not been modified in any way"""""".................using your words...........

also has body mods such as rear fender gone etc........that mod is not even
legal in production...............

so continue to help me and my son here understand how you "kicked butt".....
with your zx14 with aftermarket pipe etc.................that has run slower than
zx12's and busa's have with stock engines and pipes................

not slamming you..........just posting facts..............
