Ordered the black radiator screen from Cox. Unfortunately, they have silver in stock and I have to wait two weeks for the black to ship.

What color is the radiator on the 14? I thought it was black???

If so, that surprises me.

Yeah, thats what surprises me is that since the zx-14r radiator is black that they have silver in stock but not black.... unless there are a boatload of zx-14 owners buying the black and all their stock is depleted, which is entirely possible I guess seeing how they just released them....

Maybe they underestimated how many 14 owners would want them...

3 zip ties to the radiator mounts is all it took,
just have to bend down ever so slightly the horn bracket fo clearance.
The screen is actually a rain gutter screen comes 6" x 36", ($1.77)
you might be able to find the material in the correct size if you look harder.
Needs to be 12x18, I bent the outsides over to give it rigidity, ending up 12x16,
slit some fuelline to space out and protect the radiator.

Fits fine, ran normal temp last night.
While I was in there decided to wire fan to hazard switch, I like this option.

The other option for a DIY, going back a few years, was to use a stove exhaust fan filter grid. You might be able to find one of these in almost exactly the size you want, and it will be finished all around the edges.

I did not even bother to price one out.
Mine happened the same place almost identically, but on the other side....

JB weld.
I cut out the fins about 1/4 inch on either side of the hole, and used a dremel and roughed up the area, cleaned it well with brake cleaner, pinched the split slightly and applied JB weld. 2 coats 12 hrs apart, used emery cloth to roughen up the 1 st coat of JB weld once it cured. Then applied the 2nd coat.
Used a black paint marker to cover up the gray patch.

The local radiator shops told me there was a good chance they would burn the aluminum before they got the silfoss... high strength high temp soldering rod to melt.
Agreed that a good high temp epoxy would be the best bet.
I have put over 4000 km on it since .... good stuff!

I have seen people use JB weld to repair cracked clutch covers on dirt bikes, and epoxy putty to fill holes in truck differentials, and seems to work very well.
I know it seems like a temporary fix, but i have seen this stuff endure years of use.
.

I took mine off (same spot on left side) and had a local radiator shop braze it up.
Cost $30.00 plus $10.00 for new fluids.
Looks like new and has held fine for 1500 miles now.

Now about a rock guard?

Dispite our editor locking every thread on the Cox Radiator guard. I got one and below is my post regarding my install. I found Cox Racing great to deal with and can't understand why our editor will not allow any discusssion on this product and company from those that have first hand experience with them. I guess if it your site......you make the rules!

Cheap insurance to protect an expensive part of your bike and a long walk home!

Below is my original post..................

Anyway, got mine yesterday and it fits well except for one minor clearance issue. The plastic filler panel that is bolted below the horn was rubbing slightly on the rad guard. I just ground it down a fat 1/8" and the problem was solved. Even stock the clearance from the back edge of this panel and the rad is pretty tight.

I did not remove my fairing to install, but I did remove the front fender to give me a little more room to work and to avoid scratching the front fender from dropped wrenches etc.

It was a little tight in getting the upper tie down straps around the upper rad mounts (would be easier with the fairing off), but was not too bad and ultimately was alot quicker than yanking the whole fairing off.

Basically since I installed a black one, you don't notice it unless you really look. It is easy to clean if you get bugs/crap between the screen and your rad as you just pull the bottom mounting bolt and it pivots away so you could wash/blow crap out.

I'm not to worried it will make the bike run hotter, not very restrictive looking. A rad with bent fins and full of bugs would be worse I think

Since at least 2 members have had holes in their rads, the rad guard gives me a little piece of mine now.

It comes in any color Krylon you happen to have handy in your garage.
You really can't see it , so the aluminum or galvinized looks pretty good.
Just my opinion.
