This bike has proven both itself and the Bikeland article from 2006. Its top of class with NO close second in the 600R category.
One thing I see missing about the bike is "slipper" clutch is not mentioned in the article. Perhaps I overlooked it or it was still top secret at the time the article was written.
A redesigned CBR1000RR is next, and I strongly suspect one will find its way into my garage.

The new one is coming and we each need one plus one for your wife too. Honda is getting ready- the only Honda special deal ("current offers") going on their sportbike line is the old '07 1000RR:
"You'll be Good To Go with $500 Bonus Bucks on your new Honda CBR1000RR for new gear, accessories, HondaCare or whatever you need!"

Dude, watching BIG BIKES corner is like watching old people have sex.
I have both a "Big Boy" ZX14 and a tiny 600. On the race track...well everyone who rides knows the real deal. And if you don't know the deal bring your ZX14 and a roll of tape to Daytona in October for CCS practice day and race any of our "600's".
My point anyway was the CBR1000RR is going to be even more of an improvement to the litre bike class than the 600RR was to the '07 class.

You'd be suprised how far back I keep the liter bikes in the twisties with the 14....and trust me...I know how to work my 600.

Ya I own both bikes too and ride my 14 with litre bikes. The twisties and the race track are two completely seperate issues, with the long straights included with "twisties". I wouldn't ride my 600 on the street anyway.
I'm looking forward to Daytona Biketoberfest, I'm sure at least one of us ZX14 owners will bring one to the track for the fun of it.

Street? Damn, a huge majority of people that ride on the street think they are fast because they can keep a few guys behind them. Trust me, 1st trackday will be their 1st humbling experience when they're on the latest and greatest thinking they have some skill, getting into their rythem, kneedown, hitting the apexes, head down, all business...
... then get passed by a kid on an old clapped-out Superhawk who proceeds to check out on ya. Trust me, riding a ZX14/Busa on the road with a few casual street riders and on the roadcourse with guys who eat, breathe, and shit racing and will stuff you in a corner for a $2 trophy everyweekend of the year are two completely different animals.
Kinda like a Bar Bouncer picking a fight with Randy Couture; Bouncer thinks he has skill, he just hasn't moved up the food chain.
Yet.

zx12adam, +1
People who honestly truly believe a big drag bike/sport-tourer can compete on a road race track baffle me. Lets see- longer wheelbase, longer brake leads, more weight so earlier braking, reduced corner speeds, less lean angles, softer suspension..... and you want to run it against a LITRE bike on a race track? LMFAOOOOOO
