painting headers?

I've used the hi-temp flat black paint before on my mid-pipe for the 12. It worked well and has lasted for 2 years now with no ill effects.

Any input on what type of paint will work better for the headpipes? I know the headers are a hella lot hotter than the mid-pipe. Any suggestions on what will work better than the BBQ paint? VHT? Or the paint used to paint the header wraps?

Not interested in the jetcoating or anything like that.

On high speed runs the head pipe will turn red hot and start glowing. Perhaps ceramic coating is the only one that will hold up.......................

Ceramic, is the way to go.
High temp bbq paint will withstand the heat, but will look like shit the first time the hot pipes get wet, and cannot be claened up, as well rock chips will nock it off.

Don't wreck your new pipe, get it coated!
I rebuilt a wrecked GS1150ef, as a first bike, I painted the V&H megaphone that was on the bike, and it still looked like shit.
This was years before Ceramic was available.

Trust me. Ceramic is THE way to go if bare metal is not your thing.

Jet hot is national coater, check your local listings ...
Price varies but for best performance and looks, have the inside and outside coated

ceramic coating is the *only* way to go
i wish i had done that to my headers on the zx-12 when i first got em
i plan on ceramic coating any exhaust i get for the zx-14... it can be done in different colours- even kawasaki green-ish or "chrome" look.
definetly dont use any of that resin based high temp engine paint crap on your motorcycle unless its a suzuki.

Definitely don't waste your time painting the headers.

If you Jet-Hot, make sure you search out a good shop and talk to people who have used them.

I've heard a few horror stories (not the norm, but does happen) where items like header-to-collector flanges were sprayed, etc...

And just like powder coating, don't make ANY assumptions as to the applicators ability to know where you do and where you don't want sprayed. Mask the shit out of everything that is NOT to be sprayed.

Ceramic coating should also reduce heat to the rider from what I understand...keeps the heat in and pushes more out the back...

10-4. FBA
and yes... good point
Make sure any mating surfaces, slip fit swedges etc are not sprayed .
you'll never get them together

basically you'll need to assemble the pipe on the bike and mark with a felt marker, where everything fits, so the coater will know what does, and does not get sprayed.

Think i ended up paying about $230 for my ceramic coating for my sidewinder. After I spend $50 at JEGS for the exhaust wrap and its the way to go. They sprayed my fit area on my headers and i had to use a flapper wheel to remove the coating to get the pipe together. Hope this helps!!!

Sorry to bring up an old topic but I found this thread while trying to figure out if it makes sense to coat a Titanium header. I have a Brock's CT on order (coming in Monday or Tuesday) and was wondering if it makes sense to coat the header. I know Titanium has much more corrosioin resistance but will coating it be a waste of $$$ or will it help preserve it ? I am not too worried about the heat on the new 14 due to the dual fans and will be running a fan switch.

I thought you should never coat ti? Maybe you can coat ti but never use header wrap? Sorry I know that's no help.

BTW, I'm thinking of getting the CT also and would really appreciate a write up with pics and stuff to get an idea of the fit on the new 14R.
