3000 kms. in 26 hrs...

Well, having the choice of the ZX or the 2000cc Vulcan, I took the ZX to go down and see my father for probably the last time. The bike is now at about 7000kms after this trip. I was fully geared with leather and ballistic nylon. The best I could get the bike to do was about 6.7 litres per 100 kms, riding at about 125 - 130km/h. Temps went down to about 3 C, and it was a very cold ride. Tire pressure was at about 36 psi. Bike is stock and handled pretty good for me. I was accosted by some Angels running colours on their rolling roadblocks, but I had no problem eating them up in the curves in the Fraser Canyon. I just had to play with them for the next hour or so, until I had enough and left them behind.

On my way back, the bike ran much better and found that running Esso 91 premium gas improved gas mileage. Going at about 140 - 155 km/h, my best tank of fuel lasted 340 kms. Took the Fraser Canyon back again, getting verbally abused by 2 Hyabusas. I did not clean them, but I had no problems staying ahead of them. Either they were being kind enough to not embarass me or I was managing to hold my own. By the time I reached home at 3:30 am., I hoped Corbin had a better seat made for this bike, as my butt was sorely chafed!!!

Cool.
JFYI , dependant on ambient temp of course, I initailly found I got better fuel mileage at 150km/hr 6.7 l/100k, than 120K! 7.2 when my bike was new.
With the flies out, smeg and brocks pipe slightly retuned, I have been getting as low as 5.6 l/100 km at 150 now, and 6.0 at 180km.

Flat ground, no winds... 18-22 C

I really need a throttlemeister, and see heated hand grips coming in handy too.
3C... burrrrrr!

Hope your Dads OK.

My trip was to go down and make peace with my father they have given him only a few days to live. I sure hope they make heated grips that will work on the 14 as i plan on riding it for a few more months. The pilot powers worked out great i am a 1000 km shy of what i had on the 014 and they where worn out the pilotpowers still look new . i am just out the door to put a 16 tooth sprocket on.

I got my high mount system installed last week. Everything fit great. The first thing I didn't like was the sound? Between 3000-3500 rpm's this thing sounds like shit. It reminds me of one of these rice burners with a big muffler. It makes a flutter sound. Lee mentioned it could be from plastic that they put around the packing when they are new and once it burns out it may clear that up. I have put about 75 miles on the pipe and it hasn't changed. If you notice on that canister, the outlet is smaller than the inlet. It starts out 60.5mm and at the end of the canister it is only 45mm. The core is tapered on the inside. They did this to create back pressure so you don't loose bottom end power. I have feeling this may be part of the reason that the pipe sounds so funny. I am a drag racer so I want less restrictive exhaust system. I don't care about my bottom end as much as I care about making top end horsepower. So, today I ordered there standard 60.5mm straight through canister like they use on there older systems. Hopefully it will sound better and create more horsepower.

The second issue is, I had a stumble or studder in the motor down low. For example, if I was cruising at about 3000rpm's and I rolled on the gas full throttle, it would studder for a second then take off. It did it to me twice the other night. I know one time I was in second gear when I did this.

Anyway, I may just have to get a PC and tune it. I am going to use the standard old style pipe with the spout that I just ordered and see how it runs and sounds. If anyone wants to buy the other conical style, I have it in the box. It's basically brand new.
