Got my Techmount today

Got my Techmount today and at it's tallest, it's barely tall enough for my bird dog to see over the lcd display. Not even. WTF

Play around with it Matt.

I can't speak for the 14, but it took me a while to get it all lined up right on the R1.

They are a very good quality product, just take some tweaking... My .02

Edit: Also remember - if you are talking radar, you just need minimal distortion through non-metallic, Not absolute direct LOS.

Don't believe me? The next time you go through a radar trap, make a U turn and go back and point the unit an inch below the dash line in your car. It will slightly cut down on your alert window, I'm talking miliseconds but nothing to sweat.

Radar scatters and a good detector like the Passport will pick it up no problem.

Caveat: I am NOT saying that a wide open view on the antennae is not optimal. It's just very seldom achievable on a bike.

Try it.

Love the quality. Played with it for an hour. Just to short. Need to order a longer shaft.

Thats what I thought with my STEM13 on the R1 which is your mount but a 13mm vs. 16mm stem.

Is the TechMount silkscreen on your pad facing forward and did you loosen up all the pivot bolts to adjust everything out? When all the bolts are sort of snug, it won't fully crane out.

Not saying you are wrong, but I had to play with mine for 1 hour 10 minutes and then I drank a beer and looked at it, and it all came into perspective.

Yea, 16mm stem. The logo faces forward, the stanchion is straight up(for ultimate height). With the LCD screen above both gauges in the center I just can't get enough height. One inch would do it. I thought about mounting the plate off to one side to get around the apex of the arch. Not enough. I would like a couple inches so I have some forward adjustment. If I put my tank bag on, the bird dog disappears. I can get it close if I move the BD forward an inch, then there is alot hanging off the front.

they do sell varying lenghts of shafts... help me understand what yer trying to mount.. I have the exact same one you do .. using it for radar and it's spot on. For video it's a tad short and you'd need a longer arm.

Sorry no pics yet. It's been raining and crappy since I want to take them. I ordered two different shafts today direct from the manufacturer. One should be here in a couple days and the other is getting custom made. That one will be a couple weeks. Pics as we go. Hopefully tomorrow.

Mounting a rx65, for radar it can be ubstructed somewhat but with laser it has to see. My tank bag also blocks it from my view. When I make it taller I can also move it forward.

funny... I'm running an RX65 with absolutely no problems... in fact I just came from sticking it on the 14 using the stock mount..it has a clear line of site over the gauges.... maybe you do need to take some pix.

let us know how this turns out, and share your experience please!
I hate ordering stuff, finding out its not right, shipping it back , or tossing it in the corner, then waiting for the right thing......

Thanks.

WTF? Am I chopped liver?

Lookee here. I have 3 techmounts in my garage right now. They are on 3 bikes. A ZX-10R, a 6R and a 14. The techmount fits perfectly and is used for holding a radar detector (currently the RX65, but have also used the V1 and Escort in our radar test with the very same mount).

The total length of the stan is about 4 1/4" or about 11 cm measuring from the stand's base (when mounted to the bike) to the top of the stand. The radar detector has no problem clearing the gauges on both the 6 and the 10, and just clears them on the 14... it still has a clear shot through the windscreen... Sure, 2 cm higher would be nicer on the 14 but I dont see it being a huge issue. It works quite nicely, as does the radar detector....

so just what's the problem here?

Hey Fishy stick,
I read your articles,
I own an Rx 65, pirelli strada's (showed up today BTW FINALLY)
zx14, brocks straps, smeg, no flies, samsung x vid camera....

I have to admit, I bought the vid cam, rx65, and had zx14 deposit before your articles, but you can't be far off on the other products either, as so far I have been pleased with all products mentioned in this response! OK

I am not discounting you, I just want to know what problems he is having, and how it is resolved!

Chill bro!

I'm not saying it doesn't work. I'm saying it's about 1/2" below where I would like to see it. I'm concerned about the field of view for the laser pick-up. Triing to get you guys some pics. I also can't see it through my tank bag. If I move it forward enough to see it, then it's way to low.
Hey D, is there supposed to be a pic in the post above?

I used the Techmount control mount and have no worries about the laser pickup. I didn't want it to have to be that *high* to see over the top of the instruments, I'd rather it be off to the side. The bottom of my techmount sits right on the top of the clutch reservior... and I've been hit with laser enough times that I can confirm 100% that it can "see" just fine.
