Pulled my clutch and took a look see....

Pulled my clutch apart today to add some shims to the springs.... I pulled the plates see what 70 plus full on drag strip runs have done ..........

Well they look great !!!! No blue spots on the steels, No burnt plates.....The steel plates do have a lite brownish color but that's it.... Not bad seeing how hard i am on them , it's not like i have ever drove it easy ...lol ....

Anyway i added 140 thou shims to each spring and took it for a short ride ....I have allways feel that the clutch was a bit soft when speed shifting with the clutch ...Well she hits hard now !!!!! It has a little bit more lever PSI but not bad.....We will see Wensday night drags if it helps the MPH and ET like it did for Brocks bike ... Seat of the pants tells me it will ... Smokin...

Wow at the clutch holding up like that, I've seen how hard you are on the clutch too!

A friend of mine with a ZX12 told me if my bike is anything like his, for me expect to replace the clutch often or be easy on it

Which has the better surface bite against the frictions?
1. A stock steel plate?
2. A (machined down =) dimple-less, sand blasted steel plate?

Hey smokin, did you just re-use the clutch cover gasket?? I got some new stiffer springs I'd like to put in, but don't have a gasket. Was gonna wait til I fried my clutch first, but now I might just put all 5 stiff springs in it to make sure the clutch really gets eaten up.
Won't be able to get to the track for about 3 weeks due to work, but looking forward to your times.

Gotcha..............I go up to Charles City every so often to transport new Winnibago's from the factory to dealers. What's the elevation like where you are racing? Smokin' should be REAL close to sea level I would imagine.

I don't use the clutch. And Now I have the powercommander Quickshifter, So I hardly use the clutch on the street. If you have a powercommander I would recomeend the quickshifter.

Same here. I don't use the clutch, just blip and shift. Best so far is 9.64, but I miss plenty of times. Best is to get a PC quickshift, or airshifter. My airshifter will be here next Wednesday, so no more foot shifting for this guy.

Lee, you better get yourself a Billet Basket !!!...That's how baskets blow up quick...

I was shifting the 14 without the clutch had no problems, but the possition of the shifter caused pain to the top of my foot after the 4 passes, only for a couple hours though...

I cant wait to get my 14 next year!!!
