Cooling fan
Does the fan on anybody's bike come on with the motor off? I noticed in the owners manual it says it could come on with the key in the off position. Mine hasn't come on yet when I get home and turn the bike off, although I wish it would sometimes.

Mine has never come on with the key off. If the bike is running and I turn the key off the fan stops... and if the bike sits for a couple of minutes and heats up... even if the fan wasn't on when I shut it off, if I turn the key on, the fan kicks on.... It appears to me that the fan is not made to operate when the key is off. As it has been hot lately, (I have a long driveway that is not paved yet...) my bike just gets to the point of turning on as I pull it into the garage. I normally will turn the key off, and then turn it back on again to let the fan cool the motor a bit. I also have a large garage fan that I turn on in front of it just to make sure that it cools well. I am not sure if it gets hot enough to cause damage... but I have the 1 to 2 minutes of time to make sure it cools down enough. That is just my experience so far...

Page 117 of the Owners Manual : "The cooling fan turns on automatically, even with the ignition switch off." Was told this only happens when the temp gauge has been blinking and you shut the engine off. Fan will keep on running. Can't verify this statement as my bike has never gotten that hot.

If you want to use the emergency blinker switch as a fan on/off switch get the instructions from http://www.zx14.net/publicforum/index.php?PHPSESSID=56f9dc53518adb68e1ffb00120bba700&topic=578.0. The fan will still turn on automatically when the temp gets to 203 F but at lower temps you can turn it on and off.

It's gotta be really hot (248 F) to get the gauge blinking. If it don't blink, the fan won't keep running when you shut off the engine.
