What is your preferred suspension settings?
I'm trying to fine tune my suspension, but I could use tips if possible.

Just take some imaginary tools... and some imaginary friends... and go out to your imaginary garage and adjust your imaginary suspension on your imaginary zx-14... This should get you the best ride that you have ever imagined!!

I stand corrected... he does in fact own a 14... I have been posting on here my opinions and feel that it is only just to share the fact that he does own a 14, registered in the name he is using. I have confirmed it officially....

htosado, I suppose it depends on what type of riding you do. It seems that the trend on this site is drag racing. I haven't drag raced a bike since my old H2 Kawasaki and that was when it was new.
I found the rear shock to be way too soft as delivered. I'm a bit of a lard ass and weigh 230. But the rear was very soft. It's a long reach in to the rear preload collar. And the rings are larger diameter than what I'm use to. I have an Ohlins wrench and it wouldn't even start to work. I wound up using a idler arm separation fork tool to get to the rings and adjust them. I wound up one full turn up (increasing preload). The front end felt like it pushed too much for the wheelbase and weight of this bike so I wound up sliding the forks up .250" That made a lot of difference and the bike now feels like a 600 rather than a 1400.
Preload and dampening are going to be your own taste. I do know that these stock suspension bits seem to like a lot of rebound dampening however compression dampening is going to be your own call. Too much and the bike feels non-connected, too little and the suspension won't recover for the next series of bumps in time. Also if the compression dampening is too firm the tire will tend to skip over small undulations in the pavement.
If road racing suspension tuning is what you are after then check out Traxxion Dynamics (http://www.traxxion.com), they have a great Suspension DVD that explains a lot more than I can hope to come up with in clear, legible print.

Jack 69 You said you turned the nuts one turn up to increase preload. I thought going down on the nuts made the spring stiffer . Manual says spring lenght 6.909 is strong and 7.539 is weak. Standard for 150lb. was 6.9. Turning the nut down makes the spring shorter right or am I wrong which won't be the first time.

OK Htosado, This is my official apology.......................... I was wrong and I apologize! I just couldn't understand your posts. If someone where to write stuff that was bullshit and contradicted what they just said on other posts, it would look just like your posts. I will ( in the future) be more tolerant. I, like others have seen the BS artists and thought you were one more.
It looks like we're neighbors anyway, made me feel worse when I found out you did have a bike and you bought it down the street from me.
Again......Sorry Brother!
