The owner of the local Harley shop here has a turbocharged V-rod that puts out 182 hp to the rear wheel. Pretty impressive.

I shudder at the thought of that thing coming apart with the rear clyinder aimed at you know what

The V-ROD engine is a pretty stout engine, the engineering help from Porsche was no doubt responsible for that. Harley is taking some 'baby steps' in getting this motor in a chassis that is equal to the engine. The engine is physically pretty big so it would be tough to have it in a truly sporting (compact) type chassis.

Well, you can bolt a jet engine on the back of a semi and make them pretty quick as well.................

Anything can be made 'fast' if you throw enough money at it!

Yeah, Vance & Hines proved that. They also mentioned that if the HD wasn't winning races it was sitting on the sidelines broken while they watched the races.
So, the formula is this:
Give NHRA lot's of $$ to give the V-Twin a huge weight break and then throw boatloads of cash at a poorly designed and antiquated engine.

Interesting story over on the ZZR1200.net (now ZZRBikes.com) site about a guy from Long Island on his ZZR. All of his friends ride HD's and invited him to go out riding with them. He thought this was odd because they never acknowledged him as a rider since he rode Jap Crap.
They went to a coffee shop and waited for another friend to join them.
The guy finally shows up and has a supercharged big twin Double Dutch Bus Flamin' Beagle thingy and just started to talk trash about the poor SOB on the Jap bike.
All of the other HD riders were smirking at this guy.
He felt like he had been setup.
He asked the guy why he had bothered to supercharge a Harley and his reply was "To teach rice riders respect!"

So they all headed off and the guy on the ZZR felt like he might even get beat. He had serious doubts.

They all stopped out of town somewhere and lined up.
Needless to say the ZZR beat the stuffed HD pretty easily. Even when the HD rider jumped the start pretty badly.
I'm pretty sure he mentioned that money was wagered on each race also.
Well, the ZZR rider made a few believers out of the HD crowd and they started asking him legitimate questions and became friendly to the point that they were giving the stuffed HD rider a lot of flak about jumping the start.

A couple of months later the HD guy wants to race again. Except this time he has nitrous also.
They went out and raced and the ZZR still beat him. But not by much.

A short time after that he reported that the HD rider had blown up his motor all over the road and was now the laughing stock of the HD crowd. They told him if he wanted a fast bike he should buy a Jap bike.

Good story.
Too bad it has to be that way you know ?

I wave to everyone, if they want to be like that, its their problem.
Its this mentality that seperates the sport, and mankind.

I never provoke it first, although if they insist...
If they want me to make them feel inferior, I'm willang and so far ... able!

Does the Triumph Rocket ever get dragged? It sounds intense, and the short ride I had seemed crazy, but I don't know if anyone has raced them. 147 ft lbs of torque at the rear seems pretty fuckin great.

Think they quote 3.X seconds 0-60...so it's not the beast that'll take on a 14...
