My Installation Instructions For Brocks Gen 3 Exhaust + PC

A while back I mentioned I'd write up the installation method I used to for Brock's Gen 3 StreetSmart exhaust system and a Power Commander. Since it's raining here in CT I finally got around to it. I don't know how this is going to work, but I've place an Adobe PDF file at the following location. If all goes well, then you can download directly. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader, which you can download from Adobe.

http://members.cox.net/allengeo/ZX-14/Installation%20Of%20Brock's%20Gen%203%20StreetSmart%20+%20PC.pdf

The installation instructions begin with removal of the fairings and continues all the way through installation of the PC. While I am a major fan of Brock's products and his customer support, I am not associated with his business in any way and have never met him. The installation instructions reflect my personal method and have not been endorsed by Brock's Performance Products. Further, while I purchased (and recommend) Brock's exhaust system, the installation instructions should be applicable to any full aftermarket exhaust with minor modifications.

If this .pdf file can't be downloaded cause I don't know how to do it, I'll investigate and figure out a way (if possible and if this site allows).

Well, it didn't work. I'll contact Fish and see if there is a way. If not, you can e-mail me. Make sure that you put a title such as Request for Instructions. Then I'll e-mail back to you. Fish, any way to put a link to this .pdf file.

http://members.cox.net/allengeo/ZX-14/Installation%20Of%20Brock's%20Gen%203%20StreetSmart%20+%20PC.pdf

and paste into your browser address. If you have Adobe Reader it should open it up. Least it did for me.

Excellent work! These are better and clearer instructions then came with the bike's manual. I'll modify them for by street meg and pc hopefully on their way.

This was an awful lot of hard work for no money. Are you sure you're not married to Brock's sister.... Does he have a sister?

You are referring to me, and yes I appreciate these instructions. I'm placing an order and feel a little more confident.

I read in another thread someone mentioned the fairing parts were hard to get off without the service manual because of hidden screws or something to that affect. Is this true?

Thanks, Steve

Hey stevewfl - All the bodywork that you need to remove to install the exhaust system and/or a PC are easy to takeoff. I'm hoping my instructions reveal all the so-called hidden screws. The only fastener that might be considered as hidden is a plastic quick rivet which you have to remove in order to take off the mid-fairing. It's located at the front of the bike (see Step 8, Figure 8) in my write-up. It's at postion 4. Just look under the front section of the fairing and you will see it. You do have to take fairings off in order. The order I did it worked for me and it comes off quickly. Just keep all your fasteners and pastic washers in a container so you don't lose them.

I talked with Brock about these instructions. He had one great suggestion (duh, he's the expert), which I didn't think of when I was installing my system. Not following this suggestion did not cause me any problems as the parts and pieces fit fine and I didn't have to manhandle anything. Anyway, in my instructions STEP 11 (Install Header Mount Flanges) I tell you to tighen the nuts securing the header mount flanges prior to installing the headers. This worked for me and gave me easy access to those nuts. However, Brock made a good point that if there is any mis-alignment of the flanges, then the header pipes must be forced onto the flanges. Brock Suggested leaving the flange nuts loose when you install the pipes. That way the flanges can move as required and forcing the pipes onto the flanges is not required. Tighten the flange nuts after installing the pipes. Little more difficult to get to the nuts, but its still quite easy with a ratchet and extension.

As said in the other thread.... these directions were "priceless" to me when I performed my install on the gen3 and PC!!!

Is there a way we can make this url work with just a click on so I can find it because i suck at working with the comp. The pipe should be no problem to install I'm more concerned about taking the body work apart with scratching the shit out of it. I've stripped my harley down to frame and parts so an exhaust should be no problem.

Haven't been able to make the url work. I'm thinking it may be the title or something. I'll try to change the title and then add a new url link below. Maybe it will work. If not, then you'll have to copy and paste the link into the Address bar. Here's what you copy and paste.
