the 14 ripped the shit outta the busa, and the busa doesnt have secondary butterfly vavles. soooooo. just imagine how bad the busa would have been smoked if the 14's "extra" restrictors werent present. ughhhhhh must hurt huh suzuki.....

What were you looking at...The 14 smokes the Busa in all categories..Vbox data eliminates rider error and is more of a true measure of the bikes performance....

the results are close enough to make me not really care one way or another
i really, *really* hope that kawi doesnt change the zx-14 and force me to trade mine in for a "better" 14. if they made a zx-14r, i would be FURIOUS.

The lack of power below 6000 rpm, and poor clutch control, is what is hurting most people ET's.
Pull the flies and drop the clutch at 3500 rpm.............................
bbbbbbbbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaapppppppppp.
Blast off.... see ya!
And wtf was kaw thinking when they put in those stupid secondary throttle plates anyway? Suzuki never had issue with the Busa in the last 7 years...and it's unrestricted...and by the way....the whole bike and throttle response is noticeably smoother with the plates removed...no big 6k jerk either, though it still pulls as hard at 6k as it did before. No...I'm not so sure it was the legal dept getting involved, other manufacturers have bikes that hit much harder at even lower RPM...FJR1300 comes to mind....Triumph Rocket III...etc...all these pull harder down low than even an unrestricted 14.

Hey FBA... Most of the test riders said that they liked the way Kawasaki set it up. They also say that the reason it was the "open sportbike of the year" was because it had the best of all worlds. I believe that many drag racers like the feel of the bike. I personaly hated it the way it was. In my riding world it was horrible. SWFT... I did change it, I pulled the flies. Now it pulls like it should. It is not at all jerky, and my wife and I just got back from a ride. We went through numerous towns and it was perfect. We then hit some back roads with some nice curves... and once again, perfect throttle response. Therefore I believe Kawasaki was right on with the bike, since they figured some people may have struggles with the power... and they knew that 'we' would figure out a fix. I guess the Busa had just enough bad reviews with their throttle response that Kawi felt they would not face the same bad press, (not to mention the zx-12). Anything I have seen in magazine reviews when they mention the 'restriction' .. they think that it is great.

I just sold my 12... and I loved it... My point was they had horrible luck with the reviews... I had posted in another thread that I think the 12 was completely underated by most of the poeple that reviewed it. I don't believe that it got a fair shot due to the hype that was put out there. I bought the 2001 zx 12, and then bought a 2002 Hayabusa... and I truthfuly liked the 12 a lot better. The only thing that I didn't like about the 12 was that it was terrible for two up riding.... that is why I bought the Busa. It was a lot better for riding with my wife. My 12 was by far my favorite bike until I got the 14. I was not ripping the 12, just stating that Kawi got bad press with it, and I am sure they didn't want the same thing with the 14... which they obviously have not. I am sorry that I didn't make that clear... and I am glad I was able to clarify! If I were to choose between the bikes again, I would take the 14, then the 12 and then probably the Hayabusa. Although after seeing how smooth the 14 is, I think that the 1100xx may be third on my list now!! My wife jokes that she thinks I will get a BMW next because I rave at how smooth the 14 is, and how nice it is to 'tour' on it.

This paragraph sums it all up!!!
"For what is the quickest-accelerating street-legal vehicle ever sold to the public, the ZX-14 can be a docile plaything," muses Duke Danger. "Keep the revs low and it's a Gentlemen's Express kind of machine, suave and effortless. That said, the blue bomber will positively take your breath away when you give it the reins, compressing time and space with a force unequalled from anything with a license plate. It lunges forward with a ferocity that makes even a speed junkie nervous."
I really like that!!!

When cost outweighs the benefit one has incurred an expenditure. A rationale defense then becomes that the purchase is an investment; ergo the modifications made to Harley Davidson. Just to mention bikes that come out of the crate whoopin' that HD ass in the CRUISER class: Triumph Rocket III - Susuki Boulevard M109r - Kawasaki Vulcan 2000, etc. This category is filled with the bragadocious paper tiger swag statements which primarily comes from the mouths of H-D owners. It is reasonable to presume that extenuating circumstances do exist to account for such perpetuated conduct. Regardless, remember the category in which the vehicle is defned; CRUISER. After the realization of the category coupled with the alternatives available in the CRUISER class which give more for less...................................Well even you can figure out the rest if your jawjackin' can take in a breathe of fresh air. All the dumb asses that this 2 cents referrs to say "what". The silence would be deafening.

Actually the 08 and up Busa does have Secondary butterflies. They were added with the second set of injectors on the Gen 2. Though I can not find anywhere that says it will help or hurt the bike if you take them out. I am not sure they are used to curb the power down low or to help with torque?

Yes the 08 busa does have flys but it hurts the busa if you remove them.
Also if you remove the flys from the 14r and leave it stock height and lenth the busa will beat even worse. The 14r has way to much power even with the flys in to get it wide open in first gear to soon. It truely is a wheelie monstor. Most people on this site that have owned them both will tell you the 14r has way more torque making it harder to go full throttle thats why they went slower on it.
