nice, it got Best Open Streetbike

from TFA:

It may seem strange that a bike offering nearly 200 horsepower has taken this category in lieu of being named Best Superbike. While the new flagship Ninja—capable of sprinting the quarter-mile quicker than any production bike we've ever tested—certainly meets the criteria of a landmark Superbike, it's this machine's more docile side that has made it our choice of best overall large-caliber streetbike of the year. Through the magic of black-box mapping, the low-rev power delivery of this King Kong Kawi has been tamed to a level that even an average rider can command. And like Kong, the 14 is surprisingly agile within its weight class, making it at ease in the urban jungle and on the open road. All this and savage acceleration when there's a need to show teeth.

On the streets I am finding that it CAN hang with the litre bikes. In a straight it is no problem and I have had them pull over to let me by in the hills or just barely keep up to even putting one a minute behind in a couple miles of twisties........this is some bike.............love it.

Sounds like a very fun bike to ride on, I at least know where two are and both are at the same dealership, Ones Black and ones Blue, If I had the money now I'd buy one, But I have to wait til at least the end of August or the beginning of September, Depending on How much money I have to spend on a land, permits, manufactured house, utils, misc items and maybe a road(325'x26'x3" asphalt on a dirt road) will cost Me and also how much I'll be receiving from an inheritance($85,312 or $115,625).

I just wish I knew how well the ZX14 would handle on a smooth hard packed dirt road with no loose dirt or sand.

I can't imagine that the '14 would handle hard packed dirt worse than any other sportbike. In fact, I'd say that throttle/power control at low speeds is easier than most other bikes since Kawi installed those "parental controls" sub-throttle plates to help us out.

Really though, if you can do it on *any* other sportbike, you can do it on the '14. I've ridden on plenty of dirt roads (by accident, poor planning, or unknown construction schedules in rural areas while on trips), and never had a problem. Haven't done it on the '14 yet, but I'm not afraid of tackling one in the least.

I lived at the end of several hundred yards of gravel road for a couple years. I don't think you'll have any problem as long as you don't think you need to play Speed Racer just to go down to the mail box.

On the other hand having my nice shiny new bike either constantly covered in a thick layer of dust in the summer or mud the rest of the year was a real drag. Not to mention all the rocks bouncing off the chin fairing into the front fender and back again into the radiator fins.

But for the cost of 300' of asphalt you could hire some one to wash and wax your bike every day 365 days a year for a long time

Compromise, just put a 2' strip of asphalt down the middle for the bike. :P

I don't do speed racer, Dirt is not the place for It.

Nice idea, But I don't think the county of San Bernardino would allow that, I'm still awaiting the 2nd estimate, The 1st one was for 325'x30'x3" and was for $34,125($3.50 per sqft was quoted by the 1st contractor)+$4,000 for engineering drawings from an engineering firm($38,125), 2nd estimate was for 300'x26'x3" and the guy said He'd call Friday, No calls came from Him then, So I'll have to call Him and ask Him on Monday. If the 2nd contractor were to go by the $3.50 per sqft amount like the 1st one did then It would be $27,300 or a difference of $6,825, But I won't know one way or the other until I call Him or He calls Me. I'm hoping He was able to see the road in question as He said He knew the area.
